Photographer’s Note
Hi all.
This pear tree is in one of the fields down the road from our house. There must have been a farmhouse here at one stage because it’s an odd place for a lone pear tree. The tree is surrounded by triticale at the moment but in the immediate foreground there are weeds which add the dry summer colour. Triticale is a crop grown to make silage for winter feed, sort of a cross between barley and oats.
I took this pic from ground level, I’m going to have to start wearing overalls when I’m out taking photos as I spend so much time laying in the dirt with my camera ;-).
Taken as the last rays of the sun illuminated the tree for me. I love this old tree and have taken many photos of it over the last few years so I will post more from time to time.
Enjoy, Paul.
PS. The fruit from this tree is delicious but the stock seem to end up with most of it.

Hello Paul,
THe sky look very dynamic in this image. The clouds give the blue sky a niceperspective of the day. Good light and colours. Your vertical format works very effectively to capture the entire tree under a sunny day. THanks Paul.

Taking this shot in the dirt really gives it the right impact, Paul. I like this shot and the way the grasses, tree branches, and wispy clouds complement each other. Thank you for sharing this and a very helpful note as well!

Hello Paul.
Nicely proportioned composition with striking lighting of the grass, and a tree with lots of character that blends in amazingly well with the cloud pattern. Your very low viewpoint makes this seemingly simple image really striking and interesting. Great shot.

Hi Paul,
The tree looks really old to be that size! .
I like the texture combination of the dry cereals in FG and the pear tree's foliage... Nice light too!

Hello Paul,
Very good, but where is the Partridge? I bet you were waiting for some idiot to say that :-). It really is a dramatic picture of this towering tree; I was unaware of how tall they actually grew. The fruit must be good because the soil in this area must be rich in volcanically deposited minerals, and would get plenty of moisture. I have never taken photos with tall grasses, reeds or crops in the FG so I would not know by experience how to make it look less 'busy', not that it looks it here. I suppose the trick is a very rapid shutter speed in decent lighting. The sky is a pleasant backdrop boasting those cirrus cloud formations.
Sad to hear about the scrapping of your Taranaki cycle. I hope you get up there someday for the trip. For now, Taranaki belongs to the Trans-Tasman kayakers who saw Mt. Taranaki as the first sight of land before coming ashore at New Plymouth.
Have a good week.

Hi Paul,
The light is magical in this beatiful composition. Your low POV is very effective with the detail of the grain glowing in the sun. The most amazing thing is the way the clouds seem to be shooting out of the tree. Wisning you health, love & joy in the coming year, Pat

It's kind of funny, you're showing the summer on this old tree while we're experiencing a rainy winter in the northern hemisphere.

Hi Paul,
the low position with the high grass makes the tree bigger. Marvelous sky behind it and the good colours and sharpness are attracting. We had a pear tree in former times in my parents garden with a lot and delicious ones. Hope yours will do as long as possible.

Excellent sharpness and nice combination of the crop and the tree. Besides, it is always funny to see a summer when you are yourself in Winter (there is a storm warning over the West of France, and the wind is currently blowing verys strongly even here in Paris, which is rather far away from the coast).
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hi Paul, I would suggest an angle finder that you install in the viewfinder of your camera, and you turn it around, so you do not have to lay in the ground, less laundry for your wife...
It was worth it by the way as the golden colored grasses are making the photo with the dynamic clouds.
Have a good day

Hi Paul,
Your low camera angle is a reminder to me to do this more often when I take landscape photos. Your photograph is an outstanding example of using a low camera angle for scenes like this one. if you would have used the normal photo angle by standing up, your photo would not have been nearly as effective. The details of the grass in the foreground, the overall sharpness and the beauty of the tree against the gorgeous sky is marvelous! Outstanding photography!
