Photographer’s Note

Hi all. Yep another autumn shot. I must get out more but I’m making the most of what little autumn colour we get here. This was taken not far from my last photo and on the same day.
I use an old linear polariser which seems to have more effect than the newer circular designs, you just have to keep a closer eye on your exposure and focus. This has given me the deep blue sky and more saturated colours. Also this was taken at 90 deg from the sun where the polarising effect is greatest.
Processed from raw.
In WS one taken in vertical format, couldn’t decide which to post so posted both.

Hello Paul,

The sky is beautiful here because ot its clean blue. I like the contrast created by the few yellow leaves against such the blue. Nice composition with excellent sharpness and tones. The view of Autumn is very interesting. I imagine in the Land Down Under the trees never fully turn yellow. Nice place and image. Thanks.

Hi Paul.
Colours and delicacy are what make this one delightful for me. Stunning blue in the sky, and lovely range of earthy and golden hues. The polarising effect seems more uniform than with the circular filter. The foreground trees on the right add some depth to this picture. Very nicely done.

No. It's never too blue when it's that beautiful and striking !!
You composed that sky perfectly, with the low pov (as far as I can guess) and the off-centered tree.

A simple and efficient view of the autumn forest in well saturated colors and fin sharpness. Good to include the FG trees to off centre the compo.

Hi Paul,
from the thumbnail, I like the shape of the trees in the vertical format better. but this one has more lacy gold against gorgeous blue sky. Thanks for your discussion of polarizers; it's helpful to my learning.

Hi Paul,

Maybe a little unnatural blue, but I like this very much. I think we can use digital photography to give better expressions to our observations, like many painters do.

Bien vu, bien partager, celle avant aussi sous ce POV du dessous est une très jolie prise, mais il falait choisir.

The NZ autumn sky reminds me of the same here, we also get this intense blue on beautiful days in late summer!
I notice the leaves are putting on the colours of the season, contrasting well with the sky...
A simple but attractive composition!

Hi Paul, great result indeed of the polarizer. The diep blue color that you get is wonderful as bg for the trees. I must say that i perfer the one on the WS. The isolate big tree gives imo a more impressive look.

Hi Paul,
Clean NZ air, 90 degree angle to sun and strong light really maximizes polarizer effect. It leaves even autumn colours less saturated. Not really natural looking, but I still like it, and prefer this landscape version.

The vivid and strong blue color in the sky is very attractive, has a great effect on the composition. But the trees with its autumns colors and the nice lighting have a great graphical strength, which balances with its contrast on such a blue sky.

The Polarizer has added its deep blue tone to the sky in bringing out strong contrast to the row of trees. In fact the natural light on the trees helps to pop them out.

Difficult choice between this and the WS. Here we have the bonus of the trees on the left and the touch of red, while in teh WS you have zoomed into the bigger trees which I also like. The old polariser gave you an excellent sky. Well done

In my humble opinion, this works better than the WS. Lovely blue of the sky (quite incredible really) & the autumn colours just stand out against it...looks like a painter has splattered yellow & reddish paint on a blue canvas. Beautiful!

Bonjour Paul,
l'effet magique et boostant du polarisant dont j'abuse souvent aussi, ici, les couleurs sont magnifiées et les arbres paraissent lumineux dans ce ciel presque trop bleu.
