Matauri Bay, a photo from Northland, North Island

Photographer's Note

En route to the Bay of Islands from Northland, you can stray off the main highway 10, onto an unsealed road which takes you on a scenic drive around the coast to Matauri Bay.
This is Maori land, home to the Ngati Kura people, and tourists are few and far between. The view from this ridge above the bay prompted me to stop the car and grab this shot.
In the distance can be seen part of the Cavalli Islands, the final resting place of the greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior, which was destroyed in Auckland harbour by French saboteurs in 1985 and then brought here.
On the left of the photo can be seen a tree with red flowers. This is New Zealands Christmas tree, the Pohutukawa. The crimson flowers appear in December giving the tree its nickname.

It looks like a very nice place. Very well composed.

Superb composition, but slightly oversharpened. Excellent colour saturation, & I like the curve of the surf on the beach.

Oh, what a marvellous view, I love the combination of the wonderful blue of the see and the small bays and rocky headlands, and you have captured it perfectly. Nice clear and sharp shot. Well done.

Roll on summer. You have captured the Bay so well. Thankyou Steve. The colours look so magical and I love how you have composed it.
If anyone is thinking of coming to NZ, don't come for a short time - plan to stay for a while.

Bonjour Steve,
Superbe endroit. Une petite plage tranquille où il doit faire bien bon se reposer..loin des touristes et de la ville apparemment. Le bleu du ciel et de la mer invite au "farniente". Très jolie photo où la végétation tranche bien sur ce bleu azur.
