Photographer's Note
The green lake.
From the photographer:
This is a pool in the Waiotapu Thermal Reserve.
It is the Devil's Bath in Waitapu.
From the geologist:
Rotorua's geothermal field contains 1200 geothermal features which include geysers, hot springs, mud pools and fumaroles, as well as silica terraces and flats.
Ascending hot magmatic fluids mix with near-surface groundwater to form active geothermal systems with dramatic surface features such as hot springs, solfatares, fumaroles, mudpots, geysers, and hot acid lakes. These hydrothermal features are common at stratovolcanoes and young calderas and can persist for hundreds of thousands of years. Active hydrothermal systems often precipitate colorful deposits of native sulfur and other minerals.

Hi , Michel .
Awesome !!
Really really strange and very interesting !
When the "geologist" makes a note , I read it with the greatest interest - and I hope to see some of these wonderful places when - hopefully - I am going on a cruise in NZ in February of 2008.

Bonjour Michel
Salutations

Excellent point of view. I love the contrast between the textured sky and the completely calm and smooth lake. The grey against the yellow-green also looks amazing. Regards, Yvonne

What a lake! I have NEVER, ever seen anything that would come closer! This is a marvellous shot, both in terms of subject and the way you took it: the wide angle is creating an even more dramatic feel with the moody clouds above and the slightly rotund horizon. But this wild pistachio lime green, almost fluorescent, is simply spellbinding!
I have learnt something today!
Thanks,
sasa
PS Will be back

Salut Michel,
Bonne journee,
Jean-Yves

Hello Michel,
An extraordinary scene and two comment. It’s very interesting color as you explained details in your notes. That’s why TE is a great site for learning world together. I like your stunning frame, of course with high contrasted green color and your wide view. Congratulations.
