Photographer's Note

This is the view from the top of Tokatoka (see previous postings) looking towards Dargaville. The river is the lower, tidal portion of the Northern Wairoa River a few km north of Ruawai, where it flows into the Kaipara Harbour on Northland’s west coast. The high feature on the horizon towards the left of the pic is Maunganui Bluff. 50km from where this photo was taken, it’s an outcrop on the coast that juts out into the Tasman Sea. The view through the centre of this image is about parallel with the coast. The silt in this tidal portion of the river is constantly stirred up by the changing tides, which is why the river always looks muddy here.

This image has had the contrast increased slightly and it’s been sharpened

Kind regards,
Tony
