Fishing boat stuck on the barrier reef.

Rarotonga is the capital of the Cook Islands, a lovely volcanic island surrounded by a pristine barrier reef.
The Cook Islands which consists of 15 islands in the sparkling Pacific Ocean. The islands hold fascination to scientists who study it's volcanic origins. Rarotonga is a raised island cone with rainforest leading down to a barrier reef. Inhabited by Polynesians, it was a British protectorate from 1888 and eventually became a New Zealand dependency in 1901. In 1960's The Cook Islands became a self governing state.

Que suerte haber viajado a New Zealand,
es un lugar que a mi me atrae, quizás
por ser el punto más lejano de España,
20.000 Kms.
La foto, aunque triste por ver a un gran barco
abandonado en un bonito lugar de la costa
de Rarotonga, no deja de ser interesante,
.... mi esperanza de que las autoridades algún
día lo retiren.

A mio parere sono molto malinconiche le immagini di navi abbandonate, ma dal puno di vista fotografico offrono spunti molto interessanti, come nel caso della tua splendida composizione dai colori entusiasmanti. Bravissima.

Hello Leonor,

This is an interesting scene, unfortunately not uncommon on shores around the globe!
Even if a wreck like this is a good subject for photography it is also a visual pollution of the environment...
I like the simplicity of the composition, a fine documentary with good details!

Good choice of framing in several horizontal layers. I particularly like the splashes on the left as the waves crash on the rocks.

Hi Leonor,
Nice to be back and hopefully I will be able to do more posting after my trip next month.
The clouds and the breaking waves did add some interesting actions and compliment beautifully in this composition.The blue gave a feeling of peace and calm after a storm which have landed the ship in this awkward position. I am particularly impressed by the lovely treatment of the clouds.

Hello Leonor,

There is always a sense of mystery surrounding abandoned ships, just as there is around sunken ships. This rusty scupper does not look like it was in that poor a shape, it had not broken up, but it does look like it ran aground on the rock pile. What I particularly like here are the waves crashing onto the shore. Rarotonga is of of those South Sea islands I want very much to visit, and just having retired from four decades of university teaching, I may be able to just that. Thank you for sharing this image of a suburb of Paradise that must have become exactly the opposite for the crew of this freighter.

Nice composition in blue. As such, the blue pain of the wrecked ship is acuriositiy, because blue paint is not so common for ships (most prefer colors contrasting with the sea), and the red of the rush works very well here.
