Three Sisters Photo

Photographer’s Note

Three Sisters Rock located in Tongaporutu (now actually two sisters rock - The first sister was claimed by the vicious waters a few years back) is located on the way to New Plymouth. Taken early this morning, converted to black and white to show the snow capped Mt Taranaki (formerly know as Mt Egmont) in the BG (This would be about 100km away from this vantage point.

Colour version to be put in WS.

I'm not fond of BW but I like this dramatic landscape and the tones you obtained on the wet sand

hi Jim,
I've always thought that it takes a lot of skill to create an appealing landscape photo without relying on colours (as I do). love the photo, the 4-sec exposure has smoothed everything just enough to have dreame yet realistic feeling. great shot, my compliments.

Hello Jim! I love b/w photos but I have only one on TE and most said why not color ... LOL. Why not, because we want to try out, this is the reason, and because we might like it. Love the smoothness, and the rest water on the sand, like a scene from the Piano ... just crossed my mind that I have not seen this film for a long time ... but the music, it stands in my CD shelve. Beautiful beach, wonderful picture but it needs a little time, it is not something to click through with happy colors but rather dark and therefore you have to hold still and enjoy. Hi Jim, at first I thought I was looking at the Apostles of Victoria here, so thanks for "learnin" me something new today. Tick Taranaki for places to go to in NZ. Interesting and highly effective choice of B&W here. I am torn between it and the colour WS as both are superb and certainly merit postings of their own. I just must also comment on the amazing depth to the photo where we can clearly see the snow-capped Mt Taranaki. Great work - as per usual! I am torn too between the color version and this fascinating impression! As already mentioned by Barbara this scene also reminds me of the Piano movie. Outstanding photo work (as usual) and amazing atmosphere. Congratulation!
