I don't actually know the history of this building.
The title refers to my Hicks Bay general store photo from the same day. It's interesting to compare these.
Tokomaru Bay has a great beach, and someplace else it would be a huge holiday resort.

Cropped, adjusted levels, gave some colour to rust.

Hi Kari,
I like this run down general store, tomany to be found these days with large supermarkets around. A real tribute to days gone by.

Nice one Kari, you have captured the old general store so well. Isn't a shame how the places are falling into ruins. But too expensive for them to do up now.

I dont know why, but i always seems to fancy those old beside the road hack where ever in the world they are and this is not an exception.
maybe a bit lined up had helped the composition.

Great photo Kari - this was actually a billiard (pool) room at Tokomaru Bay and is part of a group of old buildings in the former commercial area of this East Coast township. Not sure when it closed but would be at least 35 years ago - maybe more? For some time it was used as a craft co-operative known as the Tauira (= example)
