I’m not sure why I like this image, maybe the contrast between the chaos of nature and the orderly pattern of the pylon. Or perhaps the triangle that is the mountain is repeated in the pattern in the pylon. What do you think?
This is Mount Ngauruhoe and this image was taken from the Tukino access road about 2 kilometres from state highway one.
Hope you enjoy.
Cheers, Paul.

Your're right about the contrast Paul. I wouldn't say its to do with the triangles, it's just something different. When us non-kiwis think of landscape photography of New Zealand we don't expect to see pylons! The exposure and sharpness is spot on, and I guess you could say that the way the mountain is framed by the pylon is very nice!

Thanks

hi paul, "chaos of nature"? my dear, there is no more "order" than in nature, i think - that mountain has been there for hundreds of thousands of years while the pylon for a fraction, and will not be longer than for the fraction compared to the mountain :-))
i also like this juxtaposition of the "nature" and "man made" objects, and it is interesting how the brown grass "hosts" both of them;
best wishes, j.

Hi Paul
This is a nice photo, i like the contrast between the two subjects. I think the nature got more order than the electric pylons.

Anyway, i like the composition and the colors.

Bonjour Paul,
Une belle image pour laquelle les contrastes de toute nature sont élevés. Bien vu ! Merci
Gérard

You are right that the orderly pattern in the chaos is the main point og attraction. Very colourful shot with wonderful scenic beauty. Handling of light is excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Arjun

hello Paul,
Interesting juxtaposition. I apprecaite shots like this because they show the real world rather than the one we want to portray.Popular images on site are generally (but not always) chocolate box representations. It is natural to want to show beauty of course by I like the reality check ones more. But I am being contrary too as i have not taken many of the nuclear power station close to my home town which is set in beautiful countryside. You have made me think that perhaps I ought to.
best wishes
Bev

Hello Paul,

It's an original shot ! The contrast as you said between the modern ant the nature. The landscape in the background is wonderful and you have done a good framing.

Regards,
Stéphanie.

Very interesting composition showing the ugly pylon and the beautiful snowy mountain. It is strange but looks we all like this kind of contrast. Well done.
Antonio

Hi Paul,
You got a good one here, perfect dof with a great mood thanks to the clouds around the vulcano. I really like this one...perfect..!!!
Regards, Henk

Paul,
Impressive shot.
I also do not know, why I liked that but it is intresting. Nice dark colors, artifical structure & nice mountain on background.

Well done.
TFS,
Shailendra

Hi Paul, you are right...the very unattractive pylon really destroys most natural images completely, but somehow rather it works here. it adds depth, it makes the comp more interesting, and maybe adds dimesion.
the clouds do make for even more interesting window her, colors very smooth... Excellentemundo :-)

tfs arnoud

These pylons are going to take over the coountry soon - if the Electricity Boards have their way!!
It's the sharp lines of the man-made robot-like creature showing so stark against the natural look of Ngauruhoe. I like it Paul - very much. And I like the dark grasses contrasting with the mist and sky. Well done,
Janice

Hi Paul.

Well done on this fantastic shot. An amazing mountain in the background, and a contrasting foreground subject. Technically a triumph, also - very sharp and great tonal range.

Thanks for sharing it!

Hi Paul,
Beautiful landscape, I don't mind having the pylon included in this otherwise, wild, empty scenery, it adds a touch of human presence to it and it creates a nice contrast between nature and people. The mountain and the low clouds surrounding it looks very nice. Well done!

Regards

C'est étonnant, Paul, comme ce pylone paraît grâcieux et son rapprochement avec la montagne est des plus intéressants. Les couleurs sont douces c'est presque de l'aquarelle. Bravo !
Jacques

Hi Paul,
You can possibly look at this photo as portraying the contrast between nature and progress. But then we ask ourselves a question on whether is this the way we want to go forward or are there other alternatives that creates minimal visual pollution?
A provocative composition and well captured ... the colour quality is superb. TFS
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Paul,
I have allways heard that your country is gorgeous and I can see that from the images in your gallery. It's also the most further away from my country (exactly on the opposite side of the planet). You got a pretty original image here. It would be normal to capture this marvellous landscape without the pylon, but the contrast is actually quite interesting and also the graphic effect against the clear background. The mount is an amazing view and the two levels of clouds make it even more attractive. The image is clear and sharp with excellent quality. Very well done!
Have a nice weekend,
Ricardo

Hello Paul!
This is excellent composition!
I like this scene with civilisation and high mountain in the back
Great work!
Best regards!

Hi Paul - these structures often ruin landscape shot, but I think in this case it positively balances the composition, I also like the layers of clouds, well done.

Hi Paul,
Wonderful landscape. I like it very much.
Superb sharpness, colors and composition.

Congratulations.
Ahmet

A really good shot, not a postal but a slice of reality in this dual life: man an nature. A magnific mountain who is very similar to the popocatepetl.

Best regards.

Hi Paul, a fantastic picture here, an evocative mix of Nature's wonders and modern life.. simple but so atractive.. I love this shot.. and what a lights.. BRAVO+++

Hi Paul,
I think Bev hads said it best; I really admire the ability to use what is omnipresent and often ugly as part of a compo rather than an accidental intrusion. I think it works because of the way you've used the tower to frame the mountain as well as the surprising contrast of the two objec`ts. The only other person I've seen do this almost as successfully as this shot is Wes Wang.
Regards, Pat

Hi Paul,
Wow bit of a clash of subjects in this one!In my personal opinion I think I would have prefered the mountain without the pylon. As regards to other aspects, the clarity of the image is superb and the deep foreground colour a good contrast to the barren rock of the mountain. The mist is well captured.Good one dude!

Hi Paul,
This is a superb composition with excellent contrast between natures's own creation and the creation of man. Which looks more impressive? Nature wins hands down :)

Hej Paul,
I like the combination of the impressive nature of the mountain and the pylon in front a lot, that pylon is very well placed in the composition too. The colours and the colour contrastst are very nice too and the clouds are a nice addition. Good work!

Hi Paul,

I like the combinations between nature and industrial, it's always very sadly pyloons in the lovely nature, but sometimes a very great exigence, the landscape in the background is wonderful and you have done a good framing.

My compliments,

Hello Paul,
Beaucoup d'éléments intéressants dans cette photo. Une prairie sèche aux couleurs brûlantes, un pylône, symbole de la présence de l'homme mais aussi un ciel capturé à un excellent moment et une superbe montagne.
Amicalement
Daniel

Hello Paul, great capture you have here, I love this. Very well done.

Hello Paul,
Excelent comparison between this pylon and the mountain on background. I like the contrast between the ground and the mounts behind and the great atmosphere caused by the fog that surrounds the moutain on background.
Rgds.
Paulo

Hi Paul, a good idea, modernity mixed with nature, the sharpness and colors are great and your composition looks very good to me, the snowy top's moutain really looks good and I also like the different color layers found on the picture...

Fantastic shot - light, colours, contrast and composition. A beautiful scene, scarred by steel thanks to humankind.

Hi Paul. Marvellous composition.I am initially struck by the rich brown of the foreground and the soft blue tones of the clouds and sky. Then my eye is drawn to the mountain peak lit by the sun and exposed within the clear strip of sky.and then I have to come to terms with the pylon. An intrusion? An intricate patterning of lines and geometric shapes? I can appreciate a solitary structure, but I cannot help but wonder how many more are there to the left and right of the picture. As is, it's a great juxtapositioning of forms, both natural and man made. Cheers. Klaudio

Man against nature! WOnderfull idea, perfect colours, view and contrasts. Breathtaking. congratulations.

Hi
I agree - we saw thousand beatiful landscapes from New Zealand and it's easy to forget that there're people who need this kind of infrastructure.
Great composition and a high quality of the photo. Maybe a little crop of the sky would do better.

Ciao Paul,
in general the pylons disturb when we want to make a photo of a landscape, but in this case your composition is very elegant and interesting indeed. I like a lot this contrast between nature and technology. Splendid the lights and the colours.
Well done
Anna

Well, I see this photo has been well received, and rightfully so. The composition is great, and the juxtaposition between these two monuments (one made by man, and the other by nature) is very interesting. I like how the clouds are above and below the mountain, making us feel lucky to be able to see it at all. Great shot Paul,

Hi Paul,
Please accept my most humble apologies for not responding sooner. It's calving season here on the farm and I've been extremely busy for the last month. Now, finally, I'm starting to get back to catching up with the things I should have done ages ago!
I really love this pic. The contrast, as you mention, between the pylon and the surrounding landscape is nice. I also like the contrasting colours and textures you have here as well. Your composition is great and image quality is excellent. The use of light is pretty good but I couldn't help but think it would be even better if it was possible to capture it with a little more light on the slopes of Ngauruhoe.
I have a strong attachment to this region or, more specifically, just down the road at Waiouru from my years with the Territorial Force.
Nice photo, my friend.

Hugs,
Tony

Hi Paul,

Bonjour Paul
Le Pylône ose affronter le volcan.
Image très insolite.
Le POV est très appréciable et je note un bon contraste entre l'avant-plan et le ciel nuageux.

Hello Paul
The Pylon dares to face the volcano. Very strange image. The POV is very appreciable and I note a good contrast between the foreground and cloudly sky.
Cheers

IMO, the pylon obstructing the landscape view of the mountain (with snowcap) is not an ordinary sight. Not even a few mountains has this kind of obstruction. Good contrast and framing.

cheers!

Hi Paul,

a subject i personally hardly dared to explore, but this image is an inpiration to try...the nature does not look chaotic here in my eyes...it looks calm enough...and there is nothing wrong with this pylon...simply a price we pay for some comfort...there is a harmony in this image...something i would not expect...at least as an outsider...cheers, arturo

I call it man-made against nature, what a great contrast. The mountain view with the fog around really a nice focal point, i like this shot with or without the pylon, thanks Paul for this picture :-)

daniel

Hello Paul,

Sensational photography here! I did not visit the Mount Ngauruhoe/Ruapehu complex during my visit, but I did see them from across Lake Taupo. From Taupo we ventured to Waitomo, Otorahanga and then down the western coast to Taranaki, Wanganui and Wellington, so we missed out on this close view (passed through Bulls on the way to Foxton).

I really think the composition here is unbeatable, the foreground is well established, the saturations are deep and the peak and tower are both sharp. It is a shame that these structures dominate the landscape so harshly, but they serve a good purpose in this photo - it would not appear so unique without it. Very good. Enjoy your week.

Matt

Pure beauty against pure ugly and they are both on par with each other - the pylon is so much taller than that mountain. The capture is strong Paul and them clouds are brilliant. Great colours, sharpness and detail. Well seen and captured.
Regards
Jim
