Photographer's Note

This is a wider picture of the South Island's high country, commonly known as Mackenzie country. The area is very dry and it is mainly covered by tussock grass. But inspite of its desolate landscape, I find beauty in its ruggedness ... not to mention I like the absence of snakes, bears, and those nasty wildlife. Comes winter the whole scene changes and that is where its real beauty lies.
The small settlement in the left is the NZ army training barracks.
