Hi all. Another from our Northland excursion. This is Coopers Beach. I fell in love with the colour of the “sand” on this stretch of the coast and as luck would have we passed this way just on sunset. Yes that is the actual colour of the sand, only enhanced by the warm light of the evening. The sand here is more crushed Seashells than actual sand and this accounts for the colour.
This area is on the east coast and is about 70 Km’s north of the Bay Of Islands, the tourist center of Northland.
Just south of here is Mangonui Harbour, home of the “World famous in New Zealand” fish and chip shop. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.
In WS a close up of the “sand”.
Enjoy, Paul.

Hi Paul,

Wonderful shot you took here, Really like the detail of the beach and waves coming into the shore. The saturation is perfect, Like how you add the tree in the shot to give depth to the photo. Well done Paul.

Regards
Jason.

This is a very nice landscape picture with a nice frame by the trees creating an impressive sense of depth. It is very interesting the bit of land above the horizon on the left. Actually, I only noticed it after looking at the WS. The red “sand” looks to me like made of debris of volcanic rock. From your picture I can not see any quartz at all but I am not saying there is no sand. I have seen the same type of beach, but black instead of red, in Tahiti. There are also black “sand” beaches in NZ, I believe in the North Island west coast. Well done.
Antonio

Hello Paul
From my calculations so far, NZ has three different coloured and textured sands by the virtue of red, black and yellow. Any other colour I should know about and does any other country have this monopoly of different coloured sandy beaches? Certainly an impressive colour although I have to admit that the black sand is my favourite considering it's in my camera and tripod ;-). Great and composition and colours, well done.
Regards
Jim

- Superb amazing color for this beach with red sand, perhaps the late hour accentuates also the phenomenon, anyway, the opportunity of a nice very well framed shot.
Have a good weekend also.
giorgio

Hi Paul,

I like this reddish sand. I think is very interesting because of the crushed seashells and wonder what the purpose is. Nice point of view showing this desolate beach. A peaceful composition. Thanks Paul :-)

Roberto

Hi Paul
Nice view of the Coopers Beach, the red beach !
Excellent contrast between the sand colours and remaining.
I like your POV and how you framed it with the tree on left side
TFS and have a nice day

Hello Paul,
I miss this Coopers Beach when I went up north! thank you for sharing the amazing red sand beach with us, I loved how you framed with beach with tree branches!
good depth pov with sharpness, and details
have a wonderful weekend
cheers

Hi Paul,
Superb photo from this interesting coastal sector. The reddish colours make the sight special, the composition beautiful. Like the dark branches and the peaceful mood. The soft lights provide a nostalgic atmosphere to the picture. Splendid shot. Have a nice weekend
George

Hallo Paul,
Plans for NZ are in the making, so i am looking with high interest to all pictures from far down under. No idea where this exactly is, but it sure looks nice. Weather and light is not perfect, but a rough sea can also be interesting and your crop works very good to present it in a more pano style...i like that.
Regards, Henk

Lovely scene - and yes the colours are just right!! I like how it is frames with the Pohutukawa tree.

I love visiting Northland Paul. We usually seem to get up there somewhere yearly. And I can recommend the “World famous in New Zealand” fish and chip shop - yummy

PS we've had a super week of sun and blue skies, and hopefully it will be the same for the weekend...

Hi Paul,
This image is very well composed, it has a strong effect of depth. The colour of the "sand" is amazing and the WS is fantastic to show us it is full of seashells.
Thanks for sharing,
MCV

Hi Paul,
the colours of the sand together with the colours of the sky make this composition very attractive. The framing is also beautiful. A great atmosphere of the sea! TFS!
Have a nice weekend downunder!
Warm regards

Hi Paul

The late afternoon light & its color temperature haved bathed the entire landscape in a soft red tinted light. Good sharpness & the 'S' shape of the small stream adds superb perspective. Tfs!

Hello Paul,

This is a pleasant composition, showing the characteristics of the beach very well! Imagine, it took nature quite a while to crush the seashells to make up sand on the beach...
The silhouetted branch makes a fine framing of the view to infinity!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Paul,

very attractive panorama. The low light was not a problem and you made very good use of the branches to create an effective dof. I like the clarity and the light tone. Great job!

hi Paul

Surely I would not mind a stroll on this beach with sunset light and a good breeze as shown on the waves. A flat beach. This is different from the rocks and cliffs. tfs

Hi Paul,

Lovely to see how the evening-sky has balanced their colours to each other.
This must be a great place to be.

Groet Rob

paul

very interesting the curves made by the stream to get the sea, the natural framing with that branches are interesting too.

hugs

Hello Paul:

It appears that there was little wind to capture this scene, as the silhouettes of the branches have not been very well defined. In addition, the contrast of colors is significant, the horizon is well established and the depth of field is very significant.

A nice variety of colors and I like the pov including the tree. The sand does look lovely in this lighting. Very unique. TFS

Paul bonjour.
Ce sable rouge donne un paysage des plus beaux avec, en contraste, le bleu de la mer. La courbe tracée par l'eau sur le sable est également appréciable.

Hello Paul,
Beautiful light here, and I like the overall darkness of the image.
Beautiful job,
Have a nice day,

Hello Paul,

Composition and colours are pleasant for look it, nevertheless the bad weather.

Not quite joyful, but excellent photo, but with a very good composition and colors!

Paul, I can feel the sand under my feet. What a fine capture, the early evening light paints a fine pallet and the breeze has kicked up a nice surf line and blurred the leaves to the point you can feel the motion. Great capture.

Greg

Paul,
I have seen white, yellow and black beaches, but red is a new version. Is it rosequartz?
Nie framing with the branches in the foreground and the bend of water flowing into the sea.
Peter

Hi Paul A lovely composed photo with these glowing sands, I like your POV with the branches shading the foreground, the arc of the water as it curves round works well in the frame, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Paul,
Another very peaceful atmosphere shot, the color is very subdue and muted but definitely very natural and pleasant, The evening light illuminated the color of the sand beautifully, the sharpness is a bit soft but the tranquility of the scene show well due to the soft edge and low light. The stream lead our vision in and into the ocean. Very good composition overall. Thanks and it's an honor to be among you fav list.

Hi Paul, again very nice landscape! Excellent colors, lights and composition. I like this red beach.

Hello, Paul!
Very surprising color of the sand. One could imagine, that this color is only caused by the evening light, but You say that it is original color. Very interesting! Good idea to put some dark branches on the foreground. It slightly enhances contrast.

Greg

Olá Paul, nice framing using the branches, even if I'm not so sure about the one at right that seems to be flying away. But I actually like the movement given by the 1/15s of exposure. Good use of the winding flow of water going to the sea as it is the way I read the picture. I guess it's not a good place to be in bare feet ;-) Excellent capture of the late afternoon mood in soft tones.

The pov, behing the trees, makes it looking like a secret beach. A secret red hidden beach, you want to preserve. A good atmosphere then...
