Photographer’s Note
ENGLISH: As I was driving along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, a storm was brewing. I was fortunate enough to be in a location (Split Point) where all the beauty of the storm could be seen. This is Split Point Lighthouse in colour, which is how I prefer it. In my Workshop, I have converted it to Black & White and would be interested to know what you prefer.
Split Point Lighthouse lies almost at the eastern commencement of the Great Ocean Road. The lighthouse itself is affectionately termed "The White Queen" by locals and mariners. The lighthouse was built in 1891, having as its light source vapourised kerosene. In 1919 it was taken over by the Commonwealth Government, converted to acetylene and automated. In 1972 it finally ran off electrical mains. In 2004 it was sold to private buyers for over AUD 1.5 million. You can tour the lighthouse every weekend.

Split Point Lighthouse si trova quasi al principio est della Great Ocean Road. Il faro stesso viene affettuosamente chiamata "La Regina Bianca" dalla gente locale e dei marinai. Hi Lisa,
This is a great capture, with the wonderful restless sky and the white contrasting nicely creating a real seaside scene.. The tone of the sky is ominous and the composition is well balanced. Great work as always - have great day!

Hi Lisa,
stunning upright photograph, excellent contrasting colors and sharpness. Your photo nicely presents an idea of what the lighthouse is and what it was designed for - symbol of Hope and Belief.
Have a good weekend,

Hi Lisa,
Quite a foreboding sky you got there! The white "trunk" of the lighthouse stands out so well! Great vertical shot with the wide-angle, you managed to get the entire lighthouse in it and even quite a bit of the sky above it, as well, from fairly up close. In this regard, I am a bit envious of the crop factor of your camera :-)
Have a great weekend! Hope you get some sunshine! Here, it is again overcast, but we did have about 15 5-minute intervals of sunshine two days ago, so we know the Sun is still out there, somewhere;-). Hugs, Dasha

Hi Lisa,
Wow - nice view point. It grabbd my eye instantly in thumbnails. I was pleased when I saw who posted this :) I didn't know your camera operated at 1/400? I love the whiteness here and small red portion at the top. Very meanacing storm clouds behind. I vote for this one. To me the WS does not possess the impact that this presentation provides.
Good note, thanks
Graham.

Waw! what a looooong lighthouse!!!
This view is really impressing and imposing, the sense of height is so fine! And you found the ideal conditions to get a dramatic image: the well lit lighthouse and grass at the bottom ad a dark threatening sky. The contrast is fantastic!
I do prefer the colour version, even if the W&B is not bad, but I like so much the dark blue sky and that patch of ligh green grass. A masterpiece!
So essential and so incisive.
Brava!
Have a nice day,
Donato

Hi Lisa,
I prefer the original post than the WS black and white post. It is great because of the magical colour in background. I prefer this because of the foreground greens. It has a strong contrast with rest. The tower is looking fantastic from this POV. Great use of light. Very very good shot. Tfs.
Have a beautiful weekend.

Hi Lisa,
the dark sky in the background created an unique and impressive atmosphere. It looks the end of the days :)) The lighthouse pops up in the image. The tight framing also fits well in here. I like this!

Hello Lisa,
Very impressive view from a very well chosen POV, excellent atmosphere and dark gray-blue dramatic sky, very good contrast, clarity, sharpness and lovely lighting.

Ciao Lisa,
Brava Lisa!
Un caro abbraccio!

Ciao cara Lisa,
a great view this lighthouse, fine framed and exposed. I think it was a heavy storm with this dark clouds.
I prefer the coloured version, too, because of the blue shimmering of the clouds. And i think the contrast is better in colour. TFS
Have a nice weekend and take care

Hi Lisa,
Magnificent capture of this towering light house. I sense arrogance in this light house the way it is standing, what I mean is a great POV. Good framing with the dark sky almost covering the whole frame and a bit of grass in FG. Lovely contrast.
Have a nice weekend.

Hello You,
In my youth, I used to drive an E-Type Jag, everyone told me it was to make up for....well you know what, but this, this really is quite phallic, especially when you rotate it 90 degrees CW. You're a naughty girl, you know you'll burn in hell for this.
I like it, it is incredibly graphic, the white against that dark moody sky is superb.
And you shot it a 1/400th amazing!!!!!
Love ya

Hi Lisa
Went for a night walk at St Kilda on Friday night with Santo, we had some fun but almost injured ourselfs by slipping over on the rocks at the beach, I hope he's alright.
Magnificent POV and stormy sky - an awesome contrast of the lighthouse against the dark sky. Well done, interesting note also. TFS

Ciao Cara, I have already told you what a nice shot this is, colour & contrast, drama in the air, all fantastic. I looked at the WS version, good conversion with excellent tones, usually there is much more drama when an image is converted to BW, we also tend to focus more on the image itself because colour at times is a distraction but in this case I don't think it makes much difference only because you have already captured that atmosphere & the main element being very prominent. Does it all make sense?. I like looking at the fotos we take & the notes that come with them but most of the time my greatest pleasure comes from the friendship I develop with some people, with that also comes reading the critiques & becoming involved with what is being written. I read Peter's comments & your reply, I make no comment otherwise I will only confirm your suspicion of "Old Nikon Users" HeHeHe.
Ciao

Ciao cara amica,
Brava!
Ciao, ti auguro una buona settimana!

Hi Lisa!
Lighthouses is one of my favourite photographic subjects and this one is one of the most impressive lighthouse photos I have ever seen! The composition is simple but excellent, great tight framing, but in this case the most important part is the fantastic atmosphere, enhanced by the bad weather conditions and your excellent light management! Congratulations!

Hi Lisa,
The white queen against the daring grey sky. I like the PoV very much and I wonder you had plenty of file size limit so why only 72kb?

Hello Lisa ... what a HUGE belly :))) This is really a cool shot of this Lighthouse and thanks to the dark clouds we feel rather small against the forces of nature out here at the sea. But there it stands as ever, seen many storms since it was built. Wow these were times when it worked on kerosene, now we depend on GPS. Kerosene sounds so romantic and I see the lighthouse keeper reading a book with candle light as the only source of light but probably it was never THAT romantic and this is just in my mind. Great shot, love it. Have a good week, Barbara.

Great vantage point to really see the height and presence to this Lighthouse. Great stormy weather a brewing too. Great lighting management considering the limited light there. Excellent work!
