Photographer's Note

This photo I took next to my work. It is not very good because it is captured with the cell phone. This city is about 20 km from my home. This city still has several buildings from the time of the arrival of the first German immigrants in its central area.

The German settlement colony had the name of Hansa Hammonia colony. Its name had to be changed to Ibirama, because in the period of the second war the Brazilian government banned all street or city names that were of German origin.

On November 8, 1897, they arrived in Ibirama, where the headquarters of the Hanseatic Colonizing Society is currently located, the then director of this, A.W. Sellin, the engineer Emilio Odebrecht, accompanied by his Brazilian workers and a German cook.

Ibirama, Santa Catarina, Brasil
