Photographer's Note

Every fifteen minutes, the ringing of the bell of the beautiful Nossa Senhora da Conceição church, which is in the heart of the city, reminds us that the religiosity of the city and the people of Carrancas is everywhere.

The construction, historical and cultural heritage of Carrancas, dates from the first half of the eighteenth century and is located in Praça Manoel Moreira, the scene of the main celebrations that involve the community, such as the Feast of Our Lady of Conception, on December 8.

The construction is all in quartzite, formed by blocks of up to one ton. The ceiling painting of the altar is also attributed to Joaquim José da Natividade, a disciple of Aleijadinho, and the altar altarpieces have gold paintings, as well as a beautiful wooden carving. Under the floor were buried many of the first inhabitants of the city, custom common at the time.
