Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora dos Remedios

At my first post of my Brazilian travelogue I mentioned the first church build in Paraty with the name of “Church of Our Lady of the Medications”. I’m not quite sure where this name derives. I assume that the tropical influence, hygiene and sanitation conditions back in the 17th century weren’t the best and having powerful medications or at least the believe of having a patron for this matter was vital to keep going and survive.

The church is closed for public access at the moment. No access to Paraty’s patron! The interior is going through a comprehensive renovation (WS 1). Still, what you can see from the outside and inside is quite impressive.

This church has obviously a nice square in front of it. You can see different angles of the place in one of my or a. During the day it is pretty much abandoned. The tourists are at the beaches, trekking, on boat or jungle tours. I found out that during the day it is the right moment to pick
a bench to relax and think about life (WS 2). During the night it starts to get busy - high life, posted by Paulo.

To see all Paraty, Brazil pictures you might check the travelogue.

Correction: I just noticed that the title on my picture got wrong. Instead Pararty it should obviously be PARATY! Unfortunately I will have to leave it as it is, otherwise it requires a repost and I would loose all the critiques already received and that is something that I really don't want to. Sorry!

Ola Peter,
The bright colors of the poincianna tree framed between the deep blue sky and the golden cobblestones is beautiful. What a difference between yours and Paolo's photos; yours is all the kodachrome colors of a postcard while his translates well the feeling of a tropical town square at night. SAA, Pat

Hi Peter
The vivid colours and warm sunlight really make this shot glow with South American atmosphere. The elements are nicely composed and the lively colours are nicely balanced by a peaceful setting.
Susanna

Beautiful image; the polariser did the trick. The light is good and the vivid colours superb. The interior shot shows us what a beautiful place this will be when restoration is complete.
Kath

Hi Peter, this is a clean image here, nothing bad, nothing tremendous neither ;) A pure picture from vacation, i really like that kind of shot sometimes, seeing the beauty of countries we visited, without trying too much things in settings or in composition. So good choice of compo here, without people, your treatment in PP is excellent, almost a drawing :)

Hoi Peter! Barbara.

Hi Peter,

What wonderful picture of this little nice church. The POV here is very good and the composition showing part of the square and the 'charrete' parked waiting for hiders is very well executed. It shows the slow pace of life here during he warm sunny days. Your pictures are a nice invitation and marketing to Paraty and to Brazil. It's amazing to think that a country of this size and with so many different landscapes and atractions receive less foreigns turistas tham the little Singapore!

Cheers,

Flavia

Bonsoir Peter
Beau travail

Peter,
I really think this is an excellent shot. It is so crisp and clear. The colors are absolutely beautiful. The workshops add some extra interest to the photo. Composition is really good, with many different elements of interest. I really like the shadow of the palm tree on the front of the church.

Ryan

Hi Peter - this has 4 strong points: the colonial architecture, the native exotic! vegetation, the antique horsecart and the busy sky

Hola Peter.
This is a very good tropical scene with the palm tree and the flamboyan tree. The old church presents a nice architecture with great details and colors contrast. The carriage add to your shot. Interesting note.
Well done, TFS.

Miguel.

Hi Peter,
That's a nice piece of a church and alone all these colonial era buildings and the fact they look very well maintained make me want to visit this place if I ever go to Brazil. Looking at the carriage makes me wonder if they went the right way to turn it into a car free zone, which would be a definite plus from an enjoyment and photographer's point of view. I'm viewing it on a bad screen but it seems to me the area on the left is a bit dark, but in addition to this screen quality it could well be I'm not too used of Tiffen rendering. I had noticed the addl R too, but for your info a repost does not delete the already collected feedback, provided you do it using the repost link next to your photo in your organize view.
Have a nice day,
Jean-yves

This is excellent Peter. The composition, the sharpness and the colours are really top drawer! I love the tall palm tree and the inclusion of the pony trap.

Oi Peter!
Bela foto!

Thanks for sharing.
Maria do Carmo

Hi Peter,

I love the vibrant saturated colors of the trees, sky and ground .. almost feels like the white of the church makes them leap off the screen even more ..

beautiful image.
