Photographer's Note

Yesterday we tried to climb Villarica Volcano in the Araucania region in Chile.

They picked up us at 6 am, generally they do at 4 but the uncertain weather conditions suggested in this way.

We started climbing for 1.4 kms before having a rest and wearing our crampons because of the snow.

There were different expeditions, as the previous day was not possible to climb it. Flashy coloured equipments distinguish each of these groups.

We had Israeli, Chilean, Swiss Polish,Italian among others in our group.

With 1.30 hrs from reaching the top right before facing the steep glacier we were told by our guides to refrain to continue as the cold wind was blowing even harder and also because there was too much ice which would make our climb unsafe.

Therefore we headed to the base a bit frustrated ( we were able to see the top quite close)and stop by at the Upper Chairlift station to eat something and change our gear.

There were many climbers resting and preparing for the last descent. There was as well this guide and it was so difficult not to take a photo of him.
