Photographer’s Note

The Palace of the Mayorship Greater or Liévano Building had its origins in 1843 when Juan Manuel Arrubla undertook, in the western flank of the Greater Seat, the construction of the building greater than it had projected in Bogota, who was inaugurated five years later, in 1848.

In the galleries of the building they worked by the local rest of the century of commerce, particular offices and the dependencies of the municipal government.

In May of 1900, a fire caused by criminal hands devoured the galleries of end to end.

In 1903, Nicholas Liévano celebrated with the Mayorship a contract to construct by his account, on the ruins of the galleries, a new building, with design of Gastón Lelarge and direction of architect Ricardo Lleras Codazzi, whose works concluded in 1907.

In 1960 the Liévano Palace happened to be, in its totality, of property of the Capital District. Is currently the headquarters of the Alcaldía Mayor of Bogota
