During certain days, I was fortunate to be hosted in the city of Bucaramanga. And from the window of my room at the hotel, I am pleased to note at night, a partial aspect of this magnificent religious monument of catholic origin. I called a lot of attention to his majesty dominate the sector with its beautiful multicolored lights.

One of these nights, not wait any longer. I took my camera and I went to the venue in order to capture a shot that was my taste. I have no experience, nor much knowledge to take photographs night, and while making does not have a certified quality, I think it was worth trying, because for the case, made more than 20 shots from various positions and with different camera settings, in order to learn a little detail and subsequently, which could be the best. I think it's the best way to learn, through the method of trial and error.

On the south side of the park Santander, is Bucaramanga Cathedral, a majestic white building that was completed building in the year 1887, being a major architectural works of the nineteenth century.

It houses within their facilities beautiful paintings of local artists such as Luis Alberto Acuna and Oscar Naranjo Rodriguez, has three ships, its stained glass windows are famous in the city by a combination of colors and the altar is made in Italian marble.

Undoubtedly, the sacred place of great celebrations of catholicism in the region.

Colombia es realmente un pais muy bello y tus fotos muestran su belleza natural y arquitectonica muy bien. Las luces le dan un atractivo muy interesante a la iglesia. Los detalles y el angulo que usaste es efectivo para darle mas calidad a la imagen. Bonito trabajo John.

Hola John,
bonita toma nocturna, sí señor. El encuadre es elegante, el ángulo utilizado trabaja muy bien la perspectiva y la fuga de líneas hacia la derecha, y la iluminación de la Catedral nos ofrece una variedad de tonos realmente magníficos.
El movimiento de los coches en la calle da dinamismo, y creo que has corregido correctamente la lógica distorsión de verticales en este tipo de ángulos.
Es un trabajo espléndido, amigo.

Tu método de las pruebas múltiples para hacer esta imagen es el mejor, es la que permite aprender y salir bien. Procedo la misma manera. Mucho photograhes “confirmados”, la práctica sin la declaración… Es una excelente imagen, perfectamente expuesta y neta. Gusto mucho. Enhorabuena.

Hello John,

I like the enlightenment of the wonderful Cathedral of the Holy Family.
What a nice contrast with the black background as result.
It's a miracle with F/2. and exposure of 1/13 that you get this result and without monopod.

Congratulations on your first night shot. You chose a wonderful subject with all the different coloured lights. The slight perspective view works well as a composition allowing us to see two sides of the cathedral. Well done

I saw this photo yesterday morning in your gallery and wanted to leave a comment but I forgot.. so now I am back. ;o)
This is a beautiful a shot and reading the cicumstances in which you took it, it is even more remarkable. The sky is a bit dark, but you've managed to perfectly capture the colors and the light on this cathedral. It is surprising that the details are so sharp given the fact that you were at 1/13s without a tripod. Are you a bionic man?

I completely agree that the best way to learn is to follow the "trial and error" method, but I don't really see any errors here (may be a slight perspective distortion, but I might be wrong). superb light management, John, nothin is overexposed, all little lights are clear and with beautiful colours. I especially like how the warm golden tone stands out against the darkness, and I do like the allegory of church standing out from the dark. really great photo, you make me want to see if I have some decent night shots from Quito :) well done, my compliments.
