Walking along Barichara

Dear friends, since today beginning a series of several shots made by the central-eastern, Department Santander, a region very Colombian, original and stimulating for photography.

The first stop that one finds interesting, coming from a southern Bogota, is a splendid city, full of history and legend, called Barichara.

Here his description:

Barichara was founded by Francisco Pradilla and Ayerbe in 1705 and has been declared a National Monument in 1978 because it retains intact its colonial architecture, with houses painted white with green woodwork mostly in blue or exceptions and many elaborate stone facades Barichara.

Indeed, Barichara is known for its numerous workshops where the stone works. Its cobblestone streets are totally, totally is a tourist town with a variety of cozy inn.

His name could mean resting place or flowering trees in the language of Guanes (indigenous people who inhabited this land and that today is almost extinct).

Population: 8,000 inhabitants
Altitude: 1,300 meters above sea level.
Annual average temperature: 21 ° C
Located 110 km from Bucaramanga and 21 km from San Gil, can be reached by paved road.

Caption: The miracle of the stone

It happened at the beginning of the century XVlll, in the year 1,702 reads the legend, when a farmer from the region met the Virgin.

The appearance was made on a stone where the image appeared clearly carved. The miracle was disclosed and peasants become the rock on occasion of worship. The inhabitants of the place decided to lift a church while the pastor of time not believed in miracles.

This event inspired Don Francisco Pradilla Ayerbe and to found a small village in 1705. The parish erected in the year 1751 was initially called Baraflorida, and then finally Baraechada Barichara, which means "place to rest" in Guane dialect which is a derivative of chibcha.

The church did not accept the existence of the image on stone, the truth is that the miracle can be seen throughout its history.

Barichara rises on stone, its streets, houses, temples and especially prominent place in their cemetery gates and windows are constructed of yellow stone. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in memory of Our Lady of the rock is a single work is supported by 10 columns carved with monolithic 5 metres high and 7 dm thick.

The historic centre of Barichara was declared a national monument on August 3, 1978 taking into account that "it is a good example of urban development informal ways Andalusian, and presents a good state of preservation of the original urban layout, construction of final eighteenth century and the environment itself at that time "

Olá John,
uma foto bonita essa, parece uma vila bem pacata e tranquila. Gostei do sossego do homem cochilando na rua. Boas cores na foto também.

Hi John,
Never knew these places would exist in Columbia. It looks like an old colonial street. But also impressed by the exposure where a lot of detail is still there and the contrast with the blue sky is very beautiful. The perspective view, the person sitting on the right as an eyecatcher, it all works very well for the oevral composition....very nice.

Este tipo de foto me dan mucha nostalgia, ya que ese pueblito es muy parecido a Santa Fe de Antioquia--el blanco y el estilo colonial me recuerdan mucho a mi abuelito que murio hace poco tiempo en una casita muy parecida a estas.

Tremenda toma, super buena perspectiva y atencion al detalle. Me gusta el detalle de que la senora esta alli sentada, porque asi le da un aire de soledad y nostalgia a el ambiente.

Hola John,
Que recuerdos! Yo pase un tiempo en Bucaramanga (decepcion total) y desde alli viaje a San Gil, Barichara y no se cuantos pueblitos mas. En fin que tu foto me ha traido a la memoria el sol abrasador que caia cuando subia esa misma cuesta!
Una imagen clasica que transmite ese feeling de tranquilidad y de que por alli nunca pasa el tiempo.

Me gusta tu forma de encuadrar, apoyándote en una de las fachadas de la calle para dar una fuerte perspectiva al conjunto, y me gusta cómo has gestionado la fuerte luz y has aprovechado el grafismo de sus sombras y de los bellos colores para conseguir un gran resultado fotográfico.

Hola John,
Que callecita tan encantadora! Se diría que el tiempo paró hacia 150 años oh más, aunque todo está muy bien conservado. El PdV y encuadramiento son estupendos y el angulo del sol es perfecto, captando la sensación de un sol muy fuerte y caliente. Es admirable como eso no te parece ter causado problemas en el manejo de la luz, pues lograste un resultado esplendido sin disminuir el contraste.

You've chosen a good angle allowing to look at this old and charming street which leads the eye to the church. There are many beautiful details well displayed in a good light, but also a sense of sadness when thinking of the original inhabitants which are today almost extinct...

Tu tienes un toque especial para preparar tus fotos y la verdad es que salen de maravilla, es como si fueran pinturas. Muy buena composición, tiene muy buenos tonos de colores y estupendos detalles. La inclusión de la persona sentada le da un buen toque a tu foto.

nice relaxing atmosphere at the streets of this town we can get here thru thisperson sitting right next to the street.
I like the typical facades we can see along the streets as I like too the church at its end.

I like very much this bright sunny photo :) The composition and colours are simply prefect! Great combination of the lines of house roofs, the tree and the road leading to the church in the background. It's nice to see a man and bright red flowers (rose bush?) in the photo, also :)
