Day 15 in Peru, since the subject of tourism in Machu Picchu was on the table, I figured the little town of Aguas Caliente was worth a representative look... It is a totally touristic city deep in the Urubamba valley, where the only vehicles (asside from 2-3 maintenance pick-up trucks) are the two dozen or so tourist buses that climb up to Macu Picchu in 20 minutes, because teh valley is so narrow it only has room for the railroad, which makes teh railroad the actual mainstreet... The town is literally called "hot waters" because of the thermal springs that reach the Urubamba at this point. So, litterally LOTS of shops, restaurants, hotels & the necessary infrastructures (sometimes a bit shaky - like the electrification, but that is pretty much it, a big colorfull bazaar full of people. |

Hi Bruno,
Glad to see that even in a mystical place like Machu Picchu I will still be able to buy a kitsch souvenir, NOT. Amazing, where ever you go these shops have sprung up all over the site, who makes all this junk???
I like your workshop shot, gives a good insight as to the way the town is structured, reminds me of the train in Mae Klong in Thailand.
I'm assuming you guys left this shoppers paradise loaded down with trinkets as a memento of your trip. Ha Ha
Regards
Peter
