Jour 6 au Pérou, après la visite dans les nuages et un adieu au Choquequirao, la jungle humide cède rapidement la place à la longue descente dans la poussière et la chaleur infernale d'un versant nord ouest qui cuit sous le soleil de midi. Le contraste est saisissant entre le versant humide de la montagne pleins de bambous et mousses qui voient rarement le soleil (quand c'est le cas), et ce versant toujours directement exposé où les herbes sèches disputent la poussière aux cactus. Chaque pas fait tourbillonner le sentier abrupt et glissant dans le vent chaud qui remonte à la figure de ceux qui suivent... Imaginez quand une caravane d'une trentaine de chevaux passent en amenant de grosses bonmbonnes de propane au village voisin, c'est le seul lien de communication qui y mène et en repart. Le Rio Blanco en bas nous a fait redescendre à 2000m avant de remonter à 2900m pour camper.

Day 6 in Peru, after the cloudy visit and farewell to Choquequirao, the humid jungle rapidly gives way to the long descent in the noon sun-baked infernal dust of the north-east face. The contrast is striking between the humid side of the mountain full of bamboos and mosses that rarely if ever see the sun, and this exposed face where dry herbs fight off the dusty dirt to cactuses. Each sliding step in the rocky dust sends clouds of it flying in the face of those that follow under the hot wind pushing up... Imagine a caravan of thirty or so horses passing by to transport big propane cylinders to the next village, it's the only trail leading up and from there. The Rio Blanco down there made us go down to 2000m before climbing back up to 2900m to camp for the night.

Day 6 and I'm exhausted just looking at where you've been and where you're going. I hope they have cold beer ready for you in the camp at the end of each day.

I can still remember, i could not do trekking like this for more than an hour. I will get headache easily. But it is a fun experience. You got a nice photo of dust and green. Well done. Sothy
