These are the salt mines of Moray. These terraces have been used for centuries (or longer) to capture salt from water run off from the plateau behind this point of view. Fair warning taxis are cheap but the drivers go real fast. We went down a switchback road that goes nearly a mile into this canyon at nearly 50 mph. Calling this a road is a bit generous though. It was barely larger than a goat trail in places. We also had to stop often to let herd of llamas go past. This is the first of some new color to black and white conversions from this trip.

Incredible view. Absolutely wild and severe place. Impressive shot, no doubt.

hi hubert. bet the views are stunning, i like the posting in b&w. the old ways of getting salt are the best. Its a bit different to the salt mine where i work in the U.K 1100meters under the north sea.

Hello Hubert,

It is always a pleasure to see your B&W photos for which you have a real skill. Here the contrast and the placement of the grey tones is good to evidence the salt in opposition to the dark of the mountains. The clouds and the lightning are providing a feeling of lost world.
A very good landscape view, well put in the square frame.

Yves.

Amazing place, like a story tale setting, and not the most common of the tales. I like the impression that the sepia (?) treatment gives and the beauty of all those curving lignes.

Bonjours,
