Jour 8 au Pérou, au terme d'une longue (mais alors là interminable) journée de 18km qui incluait de monter et redescendre 1100m de dénivelé. J'ai profité à main levée, en mouvement et sans stabilisation optique des derniers rayons du soleil couchant qui percent les nuages pour nous offrir un premier coup d'oeil sur la face ouest du pyramidal, magnifique et encore distant mont Salkantay (6264m). Second pic le plus proéminent du Pérou, mythique montagne dont le nom Queshua évoque tout à la fois la force, la sauvagerie, la virilité ou l'invincibilité, c'est l'un des points de référence astronomique sur lequel le Machu Picchu est aligné avec la croix du sud.
Nous avons enfin pu camper au petit village de Totora(3387m), après une traversée d'un torrent pas évident à la noirceur, mais le repas dans une maison locale enfummée par le feu de cuisson nous réservait quelques surprises, des Cuy! Ayant vu en afrique des animaux de basse-cour loger dans les maisons ça ne m'étonnait pas tellement, mais de là à les voir gambader en toute liberté entre nos jambes pendant que d'autres rongeaient leurs tiges de bambous dans le coin, c'est assez spécial. Apparemment ils retournent dans la maison tous les soirs pour profiter de l'abri des prédateurs, de la chaleur, et de la nourriture assurée, même si certains passent à la casserole de temps en temps.
Le lendemain matin, nous étions prêts à affronter les 2 autres journées qui nous séparaient du Salkantay...

Day 8 in Peru, after a long (no, really endless) day of 18km that included climbing up and down 1100m. I took the opportunity shot while moving and without IS but using the last sun's rays piercing the clouds to offer us our first glimpse on the west face of the pyramidal, magnificent and still 25km away Mount Salkantay(6264m). The second most proeminent peak in Peru, mythical mountain for the Queshua, translated variously as strength, wild savagery, virility or invincibility, it is one of the stronomical points of reference that the Machu Picchu is aligned on, based on the southern Cross.
We were finaly able to pitch tents in the village of Totora (3387m), after crossing this stream in the darkening light, but the supper in a local house (smoky from the cookfire) was a highlight as we discovered the many Cuy! Having seem in Africa domesticated animals roomed in houses so it did not surprise me so much, but to see them stroll around freely between our legs was quite a surprise. Apparently they come back in the house every evening to take advantage of the protection from predators, the heat and the given food, even if some of them serve as the main course once in a while.
The next morning, we were ready to brave the next two days between us and the Salkantay...

Salut Bruno,

Très jolie photo avec une belle luminosité. Les 2 montagnes sombres des 2 cotés mettent encore plus en valeur ce magnifique Salkantay. Bien vu et bonne continuation dans ton périple au Perou

In spite of the fact that I think that there's too much sky in the picture, the presence of the snow capped mountain - so nice its shape, I loved it - included in the "V" created by the other mountains in the fg, all of them with another type of ground (bare or with vegetation) made this photograph a very beautiful one!

I like the "V" in your splendid picture, certainly the splendid mountain between the other mountains.

Le paysage est grandiose et ton cadrage est bien vu avec ce V formé par les parties à l'ombre, cela donne encore plus d'impact au sommet au centre.
