Photographer’s Note
One of the last remains of Cold war, two countries, to mentalities still facing up.
Here are North Korean soldier observing his South counterpart with binoculars at the border of Panmunjeom.
We could feel the tense atmosphere between the two nations. It was moving and sad to see how North Korean soldiers seemed to be locked in the past.

Hello Juabroad !!!!!
I am quite surprised that there isn't any comment for this picture. This is , I think, a very good historical picture about the split between South and North Korea. This is a picture many journalists would have liked to do. I am fasinated by historical pictures because in one picture, the photographer translate all the historical fact. And in your picture you succeded in that.
Sincerely congratulation,
Philippe Journet

Hi Juabroad,
A picture I have been advised by Philippe, I must say it surprised and I do not understand too little criticism ... Perhaps the sticker does not fairly reflect the scene.
I tried a workshop to restore some vitality. What do you think?
Greetings
Philippe

This picture brought back memories for me...I at was stationed at Camp Bonifas from July 1996 - July 1997. This was a very common scene. Any time there was activity from us near the conference rooms, a squad of North Korean soldiers were dispatched. I participated in repatriations of some of our soldier's remains from the Korean War. To this day, I have not done anything that matches the sense of honor, pride, and sadness that comes from such an event. From what I understand, The Joint Security Area has been handed back to the ROK army as of 2006. It is unfortunate that younger generations of fellow U.S. soldiers will never have the opportunity that I had to serve at the JSA. To this day I use the UNCSB-JSA as a measuring stick of professionalism and unit cohesiveness...all units come up short.
I think a better picture would have included all the ROC soldiers at the "ready stance" behind all of the conference rooms. Maybe you did not have the opportunity to take such a picture while you were escorted through the conference rooms. At any rate this is a great picture and I thank you for the memories. "IN FRONT OF THEM ALL!"

I am impressed with this shot and I completely agree with Philippe. This is a photo that most people only dream of getting when they visit the DMZ. You have managed to capture something that is so good that it should grace the covers of some popular magazines... Great work!
