Photographer’s Note

Now, coming back from B&W underground (the previous post) to colourful sunny "overground"!

The photo was taken near the Prospekt Mira ("Avenue of Peace") underground station at around 6 PM.

This is part of a complex - Church of St. Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow.

It's a big church complex consisting of several various buildings (including the church itself, a chapel, a bell tower and some other minor buildings).

Info (from notes to earlier posts):
The church was built in 1777-1788 by the famous Russian architect M. Kazakov 1777-1788 г. The church is a perfect example of Early classical architecture.

Frankly speaking, again I was puzzled about which photo to post (the other version is in the Workshop).
Finally I chose a more close-up variant, though. Both photos were taken with slightly different settings, that's why they vary in colour gamma a little.

Saint Philip II of Moscow (1507-1569) was a Russian Orthodox monk, who became Metropolitan of Moscow during the reign of Ivan the Terrible.

He was one of a few Metropolitans who dared openly to contradict royal authority, and it is widely believed that the Tsar had him murdered on that account.

He is venerated as a saint and martyr in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

elle est toute belle cette petite église blanche avec son clocher doré, situé dans un bel endroit, ce que remarque c'est la propreté de l'endroit, bravo c'est très beau.

Hi Elena,
Hard to say which version is really the best here. Maybe I like the WS with a wider view with the adjacent building to the left. Maybe I like the interesting map view;) A fine summer picture with warm sunshine here!

a peaceful view of the summer day.
the light is not hot but cool, the colors are not vivid but moderate.
the combination of pale color-tones are calm and fresh,
and the composition of irregular shapes of objects makes interesting space.
after all the air in it is very invigorating.

I like both and each is equally impressive. Very good POV, in focus and great summer color in bright sunny day, especially showing a nice modern architecture, garden and people relaxing on the benches. Polarizer helps in the color saturation.

It is very interesting for me to see such a clean and modern part of Moscow. Very well composed view.

I would be like you, difficult to choose either one, because both are equally good.

Hello Elena,
Now, this is different. Surely you cannot be fed up with this. A fine church, a quite nice modern building in the background, a nice atmosphere of merrily chatting women on the benches, beautiful clouds on a sunny day and a perfectly placed bird. What else can you ask for?

Hi Elena,
Both pictures are very beautiful, indeed it is difficult to choose one. Maybe it is only a mere impression, but I think the one from Workshop is a little bit more sharp, as if I had just started to wear my new glasses 8-) Anyway, it is just because we have two to see, we look for something different ;-)
I read your critique for Christmas picture of Marie Louise (maloutim) and I would like to say that you may celebrate Christmas with all of us, not alone, please. My husband and me, we'll keep you in the heart. And I'm sure TE members who know you will do the same ;-)

really a lovely and well balanced composition. The exposure is perfect and gave you an excellent sharpness and fine colours.
The subject is very interesting for the kind of architecture shown and as an aspect of street life. Good sense of depth and a fine sky. Well done,

Really it is a very modern church. As you say it is a complex construction. It is quite low but a wide one. The walking path in circle is wide too. The benchs are set along it. Saint Philip II must have been a very convicted man. Man with tenacity. Hard times to live. Warm regards. Tomi

You just come back to your proud style.
I like your direct and obedient way as this photo,nice color and good composition. This seems to be a one scene of poem, which makes me relax and comfortableness. Delight ans slight shape of cloud and small bird give a good ascent to this photo.
