Photographer’s Note
You may criticize me for posting this picture which is not of a high quality. In fact I do admit that the quality is not very good, because I took this shot with my 2 MP mobile phone camera. But I decided to go ahead & post it because of its pertinence.
During winter, northern and eastern India regularly get enveloped in a thick blanket of fog that reduces visibility to just a few metres. This throws flight and train schedules out of gear and the usually crowded airports and railway stations become more so, with angry, muttering passengers cursing the weather, the airlines and themselves for choosing to travel on such a day.
A thick blanket of fog engulfs Delhi, the national capital and surrounding areas, reducing visibility to below 50 metres...The Delhi fog is peculiar. It has an eerie quality. It virtually blinds you, particularly if you are driving. The headlights of your car reflect back at you from the white rolling wall threatening to devour you. Even fog lights are of no help. The fog improves slowly as the day progresses and clears off only in the afternoon. So one gets accustomed to such newpaper headlines such as -
"Blanket of fog over Delhi"
"Delhi fog chaos is back: flights delayed, passengers stranded"
"Dense fog disrupts air, rail traffic in Delhi"
I travel to work by Delhi Metro, which mostly runs on elevated pylons rather than underground. The fog attack in the elevated Metro Rail stations, having average height of 12 to 13 metres (42 feet) from the ground level, seems to be even more than in ground level & as you can see, visibility being less than 20 metres. Taken in one such foggy day, I thought a give a try with my mobile phone camera (the only camera which I carry every day to work ;-))to capture the perspective of the Metro tracks which seem to dissolve into the fog beyond 20 odd metres.
The red lights in the BG are the digital clocks.
Another day, another picture, similar scene, in the Workshop.
Dedicated to all our fellow Delhi Trekearthers, who would also be 'victims' of the fog attack on a daily basis.

For a mobile phone camera, the quality is high. And you already know the limitations of the result. So thank to tell us first about that, and to admit the fact.
Exept this, the picture is wonderfull. The composition is complex and balanced, the nicely attracted successilvy by the silhouette, the red spots at the end of the gallery then in the mirror. Sure the fog is an important piece of the mysterious and intriguing atmosphere.
I like this picture very much, and the fact it was made with a mobile phone give it another dimension : it is a picture anybody could have done, at any day, at any moment. Just a question of eye.
Superb

The brilliance lies in composition. The storytelling is spot on.
The hind view mirrors and the man on the platform are valuable inclusions.

I like the idea Angshuman and the spirit with which you captured this scene with your mobile cam. The qualkity is sure suffering because of that...hence you should have mentioned that the law does not allow people to take images at railway stations, tarcks or even of the trains. I am one of the daily 'victims' of this fog and hence I agree with your posting

Hi
I think this time it's not the question of pic quality.
It's the atmosphere you've got perfectly well!! It doesn't matter if it's with a mobile 2MP or an expensive DSLR.. Sure you can't make a billboard out of it :)) but reflects a foggy feeling to the viewer! :) Good job!
cheers

Bonjour, mon ami Angshu,
C'est l'incertitude qui nous charme. Tout devient merveilleux dans la brume.
J'aime l'originalité de cette double vue à travers cette composition avec la présence d'un miroir.
Très belle prise de vue.
Amitiés.

At 230kb and in the fog not much difference between your cellular phone and and the best camera!
The atmosphere of this station is perfect. Nice position of the man walking and good perspective thanks to the 2 red lights and the miror
Well done. Bahut Acha hai

I will always support you for such experiences, Angshu. And you know how to write a good note for an image and I apreciate that too. For me, quality isn't the most important thing. That so well placed person is what makes a good capture and I would prefer this one to a good quality image without the person. I also like the mirror on the oposite corner showing the view to your back. So much fog can be interesting for photography - you should especialize your skills on moody photos ;-)
Btw, I like the blue tones in WS.
firendly regards,

Hi Angshuman
I like the reflection at top, & the foggy tunnel entrance at the bottom. An interesting shot, with the silhouetted person at right making a good focal point. Tfs!

I experienced Delhi fog last year...some 1 hour delay before my plane was allowed to take off
I love this shot because of the blurred foggy tones....because this is a daily life scene...commuters' life is hard and plagued by such problems...and I love it because it's true. it's a glance at the real world...not just another postcard

Dear Angshu, I will give you 3 plus points and 1 minus. First the plus - to think this is taken with your mobile phone is incredible, I am not bothered by the quality at all - it is so cleverly composed, it is so complex yet balanced, the more I look the more I see. - the postioning of the man in excellent. And the min point - is this the weather I have to look forward to, please say no:)

This is very different from you Angshu; in the style of bostankorkulugu. I can sense the annoyance in your note too. You don't need a good camera to be able to compose a good image, and this image is well composed! The perspective and the repetiton draw the eye right in. I also like how the tunnel windows seem to sprout from the circular mirror making it look like some kind of stylised shooting star. The person is a great additon. I would expect more people waiting in the chaos! :D

Hi Angshu,
well this one has a great mood for sure! The fog, the lonely man and the mirror, which offers us a view back are some great elements. I`m glad you posted it, even though you didn`t take it with your DSLR. That shows you can get great results even with simple methodes, that`s what proofs a great photographer. Great image!
Take care
Mark

Hello Angshuman,
informative your not about the blanket of fog in Delhi.Really impressive the weather conditions that create that peculiar chaos in this big city. The driving under these difficult circumstances,is dangerous and fatal.

hello Angshuman,
I'm actually very impressed with the quality here, considering this is a PHONE we ar talking about. and I absolutely love the way you have composed the photo, the tunnel effect is great and the dark silhouette of the person works very well to balance the mirror in the upper left corner. I like the purple cast as well, together with the fog it creates a strange and fascinating mood. no need to appologize, the shot is great.

Dear Angshu,
You always put your heart into your compositions and your notes; so you really can do no wrong. Tell your wife to give you an extra hug; she is a lucky woman to be loved by a man with so much heart.

Hi Angshuman,
Your note is giving a lot of imformation. The point of view leads our eyes toward the fog where they get lost. Also backward with the view in the mirror. The presence of the person has an effect of scale. It must give a scary sensation for the people taking the metro which is surrounded by the fog and they don't see where it is going. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshu.
Le manque de qualité de l'image ne nuit pas à l'impression que veut donner la photo. L'air des grandes cités est souvent irrespirable. Ici la composition est excellente et la présence du miroir donne un plus très appréciable.

Hi Angshuman,
don't worry by the quality of this photo taken with your mobile phone camera, because the most important thing here is what you explain to us in your note and what you show us in the image.
This fog is really impressive, and certainly that must affect the daily life in the city.
Good photographic work in spite of not to carry your camera.

Well, I have always like fog views because there are rather difficult ot succeed, and this one is successful, espcially with your clever composition with the mirror in the top left corner. And quality is no that bad.
All the best,
