time for ice skating II Photo

Photographer’s Note

Second picture of the frozen Damse Vaart, this time taken in Oostkerke. The day this picture was taken it was still forbidden to go on the ice because it was not thick enough in all places. However, just as in the previous picture also here there were some daredevils.
On Sunday finally, the Damse Vaart was opened for the public to go ice-skating. Some 50.000 people came!!! And that for just one day because on Monday the ice started to melt because of the positive temperatures.
The skateable track of the canal is some 15 km almost straight-on between Bruges and Sluis (in Netherlands), making it a dream for long distance nature ice skaters (or however you call it).
I chose this low horizontal balance to show the trees, covered with ice. They are really bent like this because of the wheather and typical for the area and especially for this canal (it's a kind of poplar tree called Maerlandica). I hope you like it. Have a nice day!

Hallo Hendrik,

Beetje in John zijn stijl, maar daarom niet minder om naar te kijken. Met die mooie blauwe lucht contrasterend tegen het aangevroren wit van de bomen geeft mij toch een vorm van jaloezie, want hier verderop naar het noorden hadden wij slechts wat vorst en meer ook niet.
Mooi opgebouwde foto in onderwerp en perspectief....dat rode jasje geeft er net iets extra's aan.

Hi,
you've chosen a very nice angle here. The eye is really drawn into the distance because of the low angle that you've chosen. The trees, particularly on the left, look magnificent against the vivid blue backdrop.

Moins d'action que dans la precedente mais avec la perspective et les hautes lumieres encore une superbe image d'hiver, et le 10mm fait l'effet d'un vent violent sur les arbres et la dynamique de l'image ;-)

Very nice perspective. I especially like how you managed to find a spot where you could give the left tree the entire place there without cutting anything off. Very nice.

The frozen canal adds good perspective. Excellent sharpness, & lead in lines, with good symmetry between the 2 rows of trees, which add a nice repetitive element. The blue & white colors go well together. Tfs!

Dag Hendrik,

Wij moeten elkaar op een haar gemist zijn want deze schaatsers heb ik ook gezien.
De lichte kanteling van de bomen zorgt werkelijk voor een groot tunnel effect.
Ik kan n iet meer zeggen dat dit een beauty is, schitterend, niet zo gezond maar wel mooi. Bedankt.

j'ai vue a la TV le monde qu'il y avait un peu aprés c'est sur c'est un événement qui va rester dans les mémoires...

Wow - long time since I seen this kind of weather around here.
I would surely love to try a long distance skating as the longest distance around here would be 500 meters. A great perspecitive and glad you got the dare devils as well. I like the views very much - thanks for sharing.
