A Happy New Year Again! Photo

Photographer’s Note

Today (January 14) we have a chance to see the New Year in once more, this time according to the good old Julian calendar, which shows January 1 today. I would like to take an additional opportunity for wishing a happy old style New Year to all TE users. The more we greet each other the happier the new 2009-th year will be!

Looking at the new church under construction, which is partly seen in the picture, I believe that the year has started being very happy for everyone. Despite a harsh whether (-17°C) and economical crisis the construction works are going on. There is a strong hope that this St Volodimir's cathedral will became the sacred center of the biggest dormitory area of Kharkiv city, Saltivka, already in this year. Every third Kharkiv’s citizen lives in Saltivka. This is around 400 thousands, but there are only 2 small churches for such a vast residential community. Hopefully the new cathedral also will be a remarkable sight of my favorite part of the city.

That's a pretty plesant and beautiful picture!
Excellent exposure and sharpness!
Well chosen pov, well seen and done composition! I really like the way the trees embrace the church! The low part of it, with the walking man and the shadow adds a melancholic feeling to the image, a bit of sadness in contrast with the white trees and the shiny church! I really like that too!

This is a well composed shot. The icy trees frame the church nicely while the angle create depth. The golden dome stands out beautifully against the blue sky. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

Wow! I like these frozen trees just in front of this brand new church. The golden dome please me very much. In Canada, Churches are not in construction, they are more and more abandoned. Great work and thanks for sharing!

In Serbia we celebrate new year twice too :) We always try to find the reason for celebration :) And as our Christmas is January 7, New year is starting today :) Well, I don't really care for that celebration on 13th, but many people here consider this date more important..

Every place is frozen in Europe, but seems you already freeze everything. We can not see this -17°C here except in the deep freeze, wow! Your POV is very creative while adding frozen naked tree branches to side of your photo with fantastic view and capture of new cathedral. This is a beautiful winter image in excellent light. The church architecture is wonderful; the roof of the bell tower is particulary eye-catching. The frosted branches trace lovely patterns across the blue sky. Good idea to include the lady.
