Photographer’s Note

Last year vacation (late September)I spent travelling by car across Croatia. We were sightseeing along the whole Croatian coast, visited also 3 islands (Krk, Cres, Hvar)and stopped in some interesting places in the central Croatia.
Hvar is the island in Adriatic Sea with the main town also called Hvar. Hvar is regarded as the longest and the sunniest Croatian islands. Administratively Hvar is a part of the Split-Dalmatia county in Dalmatia.
The major places to see there are: Hvar, Stari Grad, Jelsa, Sucuraj and Vrboska. We saw them all, but we were staying in Stari Grad renting a room from a nice old marriage and doing trips around.
Population of the island is about 11,5 inhabitants. They live from tourism, fishing, farming, viticulture, olive growing and cultivation of rosemary and lavender.
The town Hvar is nicely situated and has a beautiful architecture, full of beautiful corners and narrow streets going up and down. The pic was taken in the late afternoon with the last sun rays. You can admire the back part of the biggest church there and in the background old fortress with great garden full of different types of cactus.
Definately recommend you to go there but if you have a choice do it out of the season because there are no crowds of tourists here(it refers to travelling in Croatia in general). We did not have any problems with renting a room anywhere without previous booking even if we arrived at 22.00 at night and wanted to stay e.g. in the old town of Stari Grad. We were told that during the summer season it's impossible to find a free room here without booking in advance.
