Photographer’s Note

"You won't be going out today" my morning visitor said, shaking the sleet from her coat. But I did go out later, and it was quite pleasant in spite of the strong east wind. No sun, but the lifeboat made a splash of warm colour tied up at the far end of Victoria harbour. At this time of year the tides are never too low for the lifeboat to leave the harbour, but at other times it has to tie up at Torness, a few miles away. This boat is the replacement for the one that was damaged beyond repair during a storm last Easter. Fundraising for it was a major activity in the town last summer. The RNLI is a voluntary organisation which gets no government subsidy - that is the way the volunteeers like it.

You can link to an impressive video of a 'shout' here.
