Photographer’s Note

As the river, where the picture was taken, has crystal clear water, I have chosen a part of the name of my favorite rock band as the picture title.

The Vorskla River located in Russia and northeastern Ukraine, is tributary to the Dnieper, which is the biggest river of Ukraine. It has a length of 464 km and a basin area of 14,700 km². It is mostly navigable between its delta and town of Kobelyaky. Tributaries of the river are: (Right): Vorsklytsia, Boromlya, (Left): Merlo, Kolomak, and Tahamlik. The picture was taken in the place where the Vorskla River takes its tributary Vorsklitsa. In 1399 the Battle of the Vorskla River was fought in the area. In 1709, the city of Poltava, on the banks of the Vorskla River, was besieged by Charles XII. Towns and cities located on the river are: Grayvoron in Russia, Okhtyrka (TE shots: *, **, ***), Poltava (TE shots: *) and Kobelyaky (TE shots: *, **) in Ukraine.

Creedence Clearwater Revival (often abbreviated CCR) was an American rock and roll band who gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s with a number of successful singles drawn from various albums. The group consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist and primary lyricist John Fogerty, rhythm guitarist and brother of John, Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. Their musical style encompassed rock and roll and swamp rock genres. CCR's music is still a staple of American and worldwide radio airplay and often figures in various media. The most popular songs are "Travelin Band", "Looking Out My Back Door", "Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Have you ever seen the rain?", "Up Around The Bend?", "Down On The Corner", "Ooby Dooby" and many others including, of course, "Green River".

Green River is a song that was written by John Fogerty and recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Well, take me back down where cool water flows, yeah.
Let me remember things I love,
Stoppin at the log where catfish bite,
Walkin along the river road at night,
Barefoot girls dancin in the moonlight.

I can hear the bullfrog callin me.
Wonder if my ropes still hangin to the tree.
Love to kick my feet way down the shallow water.
Shoefly, dragonfly, get back to your mother.
Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River.
Welllllll!

Up at Codys camp I spent my days, oh,
With flat car riders and cross-tie walkers.
Old Cody, Junior took me over,
Said, "Youre gonna find the world is smouldrin.
And if you get lost come on home to Green River."

Welllllll!
Come on home.

Vorskla surely is a green river. This also can be seen from other my TE pictures, for example, ”The Vorskla River”, ”Out-of-the-way place”, ”Foggy morning”.
