Photographer’s Note

Il faisait sombre dans le fond du cratère.
Je surplombais ce lieu étrange où nul ne peut aller.
Un des derniers lieux de la planète qui ne connait pas l'homme.
Et puis, un rayon de soleil est passé sur le trou béant.
L'arbre s'est illuminé.
Un troupeau de buffle est apparu, venu de nulle part.
Probablement coincé ici depuis la nuit des temps.

The weather was dark in the bottom of the crater.
I overhung this strange place where no one cannot go.
One of the last places of the planet which does not know human.
And then, an sun ray passed on the open hole.
The tree illuminated.
A herd of buffalo appeared, come from nowhere.
Probably wedged here since mists of time.

Excellent light, shadows and brilliant shades of green. Composition with the tree is great. The crop is very tight on the left, I might have been tempted to erase one or two buffalo's near the edge of the frame to create a more 'stable' composition there...but maybe that's animal cruelty.

Quelle beauté et quel bonheur cela doit être d'être témoin de lieux encore préservés comme celui-ci.

Superbe composition où tout est parfaitement à sa place. Ce troupeau de buffles, qui reste à distance, comme s'ils le vénéraient, de cet arbre solitaire venu dont ne sait où, est vraiment un plus. On ne se rend pas compte de d'aspect cratère mais l'endroit doit être inoubliable.
J'aime bien ton WS ....les chefs manqueraient-ils un tout petit peu d'humour?

Bonjour Bertrand,
l'Afrique vue de haut ça vaut le coup d'œil aussi, tant les paysages sont superbes et variés.
La Tanzanie semble très verte par rapport aux régions que je viens de traverser, et la végétation abondante.
Belle compo avec ce troupeau de buffles dans la prairie, mise en lumière par l'arrivée de ce rayon de soleil alors que la forêt en arrière plan est dans l'ombre.

je me disais aussi mais je n'ai pas eu le temps de commenter ton autoportrait, (fallait s'y attendre), celle ci est dans le théme de TE et une vue en plongée qui nous montre un espace sauvage verdoyant et calme , je ne connaissaist pas le cratére de ngurdoto, sur le coup je pensais au n'gorongoro, un pays qui regorge de réserve naturelle

Tu excelles dans les portraits (et les autoportraits !), mais tu ne laisses pas ta part non plus pour ce qui est de la photo de paysage comme le prouve cette superbe composition ! Beau contraste entre cet arbre isolé au premier plan et ces arbustes (?) dans le fond. Belle collection de verts bien mis en valeur par une lumière superbe. La netteté est excellente une nouvelle fois. Merci pour le partage.

Fantastic shot of this mysterious and breathtaking place. Your timing was superb, catching some of the shadow at the top of the photo, and the tree so nicely placed in the bottom left corner. That little herd of buffalo looks so copmpletely at peace in the crater. Beautiful picture.

I just wonder how wide could be that "sun ray" which enlighted the tree (and half of the crater). :-)
Thanks to this shadow in the upper part of the image I can easily imagine whole interior of the crater hidden in a shade and the tree under the sun.

Bonjour, Bertrand. Très belle image à la Yann Arthus Bertrand. On a vraiment l'impression que tu survoles la scène. Bonne composition avec l'alignement entre l'arbre et le chenal menant au plan d'eau. De belles nuances de vert et un troupeau dont les membres meublent bien l'espace.

si le volcan semble vraiment endomi pour longtemps, la savane elle, grouille de vie et de dangers. Un endroit qui surplombe le cratère, est bien évidemment le mieux choisi pour le montrer, cet arbre à l'vant plan équilibre le contenu.

You managed lights and shadows very well in your excellent shot captured from a high POV, the herd of buffalo looks very neat and sharp, good idea to use the vertical format to be able to include the tree in the foreground in a narrow frame. tu dis qu'il s'agit de l'intérieur d'un ctatère,mais les verts sont si lumineux,si beaux,que j'ai du mal à me l'imaginer!J'aime l'arbre isolé et l'ombre qui se dessine tout autour,et j'aime ce troupeaux qui semble presque en relief tant la netteté est bonne!C'est splendide!

Merveilleuse photo que je n'avais pas remarqué avant. La composition est excellente, il ne manque rien, l'arbre bien placé en bas, les buffles au centre et la forêt derrière. Il y a aussi la petite source d'eau pour abreuver les bêtes, le tout accompagné d'un intéressante note. Bon rendu des couleurs.

A beautiful composition, Bertrand. It's easy to see what attracted you about this scene, since it includes a solitary tree! When I was in Ngorongoro Crater, which I would think should be similar to this one, it was always hazy. But it appears you had a very clear day, and you took great advantage, because the light is really nice. I like how the strip of mud connects the tree to the forest in the distance. Regards, Ken.

Il n'est jamais trop tard pour temoigner de son admiration pour un travail splendide, n'est-ce pas?

Alors tu me pardonneras d'avoir laisser filer celle-ci; ce n'est qu'hier que j'ai decouvert cette impressionnante photo. Il y a des images qui marquent et qui possedent un pouvoir d'attraction puissant. Celle-ci en fait partie.

C'est sans doute le point de vue vertigineux, jumele a une composition sans faille qui frappent l'imaginaire. Puis cette lumiere a la fois douce et demarquee, que ton cadrage vertical permet de prendre toute la place.
