Photographer’s Note

I would like to say goodbye for some weeks with a picture of one of my favourite animals - Zebras. I like those black & white stripes. Here you could see plains zebras at a pond.

Thanks to all TE friend for the lot of helpful comments and improvements. Hopefully I could remember them for my next shots from West Africa.

Zebras ...
The earliest known ancestor of the animals in this family was a small animal called Hyracotherium, or more commonly, Eohippus, which lived 60 million years ago during the Pleistocene Epoch. Animals known to be the direct ancestors of the modern horse, ass, and zebra appeared in Europe, Africa, and Asia about 4 million years ago during the Pliocene Epoch. Like other members of the horse family, zebras are primarily grazing animals. They feed on coarse grass, leaves, and shoots. (partly from the encyclopedia)

Bill, I see that you are a retired educator. I am, too. We also appear from your photo to be about the same age. But while I am living in the Dominican Republic and have visited many of the islands of the Eastern Caribbean, you have been traveling all over the world.

I looked at many of your excellent photos and especially liked this one of the zebras. Those reflections add a lot to the photo. Very good composition.

This is a very beautiful wildlife picture. The composition is good and the black and white stripes are opposite patterns of the rocks on the back- and foreground.

Auf den ersten Blick dachte ich,das linke Zebra hat acht Beine.....
Ein tolles Foto mit nur drei Farben.Toller Kontrast zwischen Blau und den anderen(schwarz und schwer zu benennen)und gute Kompo mit diesen mini Inseln im Vordergrund.

Hi Achim,
Sounds like you're off on a new trip. This photo is just stunning with the three zebras and their reflections!! The perfect detail of their stripes contrasts pleasingly with both the mirroring water and the softly focused rocks.

I like your profile photo with the huge tortise, just wish I could see you better. Guess Ken's eyes are better than mine.

Lovely set of zebras drinking their own reflection ;-) Those stripes always atract our eye. It's one of the more artistic coats of the animal kingdom. I guess that your're on your way to see what's left in Africa. I wish you a safe trip.

Wonderful shot of the zebras at the drinking pool. The reflections are gorgeous and I particularly like the way you have captured the two zebras standing together as they seems to be copying each other.
Have a great time in W Africa; you need to get some more yellow filled in on the Africa map! ;D

The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the zebras. The rocks are framing well the pond. The quality of the light has a good effect on the colors of the scenery. Have a nice day.

Nice work with this, Achim, and good to see you back :) I like the symmetry of this, the reflections in the water. It'a also good to see the browns in these zebras. Stereotypically, we think of them as black and white, or at least I do. Thanks for opening our eyes.
