Photographer’s Note

The tower was built in 1859 from limestone and painted white. It is the second coastal light established in Victoria. It is considered by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to be the most original lighthouse under its jurisdiction. An unusual feature of this lighthouse is its stone stairway rather than the usual wrought iron.

Kamran (kschanna), Klaudio (daddo), Andrew (macondo) and I waited at sunset hoping for a nice sky but the clouds on the horizon smothered the light. I used a 3 stop GND and CPL to try and get some colour into the sky.

Hi Steve. Four of you shooting one lighthouse, can’t have been much elbow room ;-). Nice catch. You have some nice colour in the sky, more is not always better. Well composed with excellent depth and the ridge leads the eye naturally to the main event. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Stephen,

I do really like the composition and the tones are very natural and appealing. But I do think you slightly overdid it here with the sharpening. Especially when looking at the waves hitting the shores in the lower part. A bit overly sharp.
But a very nice composition for sure!

This is a lovely shot Stephen, particularly the long stretch of the cliff face and the detailed vegetation.Excellent clarity considering how deep the shadows were already at the time. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Steve, I read your note I thought you went without me, looked at the date it was taken, I apologise for even thing that, :-)))). Nice shot, there is so much to look at here, fg, water, cliff face, sky & the lighthouse in the distance, nice colours & light. Over sharpened? you know how good my eyesight is, I'm happy to be able see it.HeHe.
