Photographer’s Note
This is part of the New Jerusalem Monastery - the Resurrection Cathedral (1656-1685), identical to a cathedral of the same name in Jerusalem.
I thought to post a photo of this Cathedral, for a change... though churches is not my "specialty" :)
I am not sure if this shot if compositionally perfect(because of the tree?..) but I decided to post it, anyway.
I have a different photo taken from a little different angle, much closer, but it doesn't show the full view of the Cathedral (cropping a little of the right side).
There already are a few photos of this Cathedral on TE, but they all were taken in the summer and from a very different POV. So I thought to make a little contribution and add this photo - the "winter version".
I have already posted another photo taken at the New Jerusalem Monastery. But it shows the entrance gates.
About the shot:
Settings Automatic;
ISO-200;
Metering Mode: Pattern;
Focal length: 6mm.
==========================================
UPDATE: I should have posted Workshop photos much earlier, so I am doing it now. In the Workshop you can see the interior of the Cathedral...

Brief info about the Monastery (mentioned in my previous post:
The New Jerusalem Monastery is is located on the river Istra 60 km west of Moscow.
It was founded in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon of Moscow, who patterned the monastery after Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
Tsar Alexis dubbed the monastery "New Jerusalem" after visiting the site and seeing the resemblance.
The monastery was destroyed by the Germans as they retreated from Moscow during World War II. Much of the compound has been restored, although the work is still in progress.

Hi Elena,
Impressive monastery full of details. I like snow on the roofs. I think the tree is on the right place, but PoV slightly more to right would show the monastery more detached from it. I'm rather tired on cloudy winter weather at the moment, but luckily this sky has some brightness variations on it.

Elana,
Just what I said the other day, Russia has many beautiful buildings and I am pleased that you are showing them to us. Your notes are also very interesting, I do think a good note makes a picture so much more.
all the best.

Lovely "postcard".
The gold color is amazing when the white is the predominant color. The left tree still´s great.

Good morning Elena
It's just like in fairy tales! The domes in their gold and other tones, the excellent framing and sharp details, all render a fantastic image.

Hello Elena. In order to say it in front: You photographed this motive in skillful manners, although the light was not ideal. The tree left gives depth to the picture. The golden domes shine before the cloudy sky. The picture and the instructive text please me very well. Best regards, Wolfgang

Hi Elena. Scenes like these make me love your country and i dream of the day when I can see such beauty for myself. The snow softens and makes even more beautiful an already beautiful building.It is a terrible thing how humans in their blind hatred destroy what is precious to humanity. Regards. Klaudio.

Elena, this is an awesome shot. I almost passed on it because of the sky but in thinking about it and the snow on the domes the gray sky makes it very dramatic. Color is great and the pov is superb as well.

Hi Elena,
Such a remarkable architecture! I have never seen anything like this or this type of fantastic buildings. This is a very good picture where the beautiful colours are enhanced from the grey sky and snowy ground. Even the naked tree here adds to this enhancement.
Kind regards

This is Russia as is imagined in the collective uncounscious.
Oustanding Orthodox church with a incredible profusion of asian like cupolas. A real labirinth with one room inside the other like your national doll (matrioska?)! (:- I wander how could it be inside. Very good framing with the fine tree to the left and nice contrast that makes it alive in spite of bad weather.
Best greetings,

Hello Elena,
Being your specialty or not, you are presenting this beautiful cathedral in a great way here. The tree fits very well into the photo and adds to the sense of depth. Your Orthodox cathedrals have very rich architectural details and this is not an exception. I bet the interior is also very beautiful in the Orthodox tradition, which tradition we can admire also in the orthodox churches of our country. Well done!
Greetings,

dear Elena,
for my eyes, this picturesque design made of several onion-shape domes is quite like a castle in old tales of Russia or Arabia...
and this maybe match the snowy or sandy view, in that we can feel more mysterious sense than simple fine climate.
anyway, the top golden domes are near the sun or the heaven, middle green domes are near the forest, and the basic brown domes are like the ground, or something other hierarchy is observed in this structure of the building.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hello Elena
Unusual to see you posting a church. I have been thinking it must be hard to avoid them in Russia? You have picked a fine example - nicely framed by the tree to the side and the snow conditions really enhance the scene. Never to be seen where I live!! Tfs, Marlene

Hi Elena,
it is indeed the snow that makes the difference, and the sky matches perfectly. Concerning the POV I think that Kari is right but now you have that tree for a very beautiful framing. The soft tones and the atmosphere really make this picture. TFS!

Hello Elena
Thanks to your earlier shot, we get a wider perspective of the wonderful Monastery as well. The architecture is typically Russian with the onion domes...liked the four distinct colours - green, blue, brown & gold, of which the gold stands out. The interiors have been restored beautifully & thanks for the WS post. Good work!
Best Regards

Elena
This monastery is a perfect jewl of arquitecture. Can be seen at different levels and the most interesting detail is how the towers end. Their shape looks like turnips. For me the tree did not damage the photo. ( The last ones I posted near the shark I notice now in a tree situated where it shoun´t be. Anyway it is a detail I should avoid now. About the photos of Bahia I have a comment to do with you as soon as possible. I am waiting foward for my days off. Like you we both, Paula and me have caught a cold too. I repair that a lot of people are affected by this virus. ( Perhaps they came from cold countries ) This is a very resistant one. I wish you recover well. ( Sauna and turkish baths have not healed me yet. The strong sun does not any good too. Spring has begun here today ( officially ). Do not worry whenever your mood is not the best and communicate feeling like to it. With me happens the same. But nothing is stronger than our personality and I found it on you. Warm regards. Tomi
