Photographer’s Note
This one was taken inside a yard of an old building of the University of Girona.
When I strolled around in the place, I got the impression that the university was quite old, but when I went looking for something to write on this note, I found that it was founded in 1991, resulting from the fusion of several high level schools that already existed in the town, namely a college of the Autonomous University of Barcelona which was created in 1967. However, I wasn't completely wrong thinking that it was a very old institution, as in 1446 the king of Cataluña y Aragón created an university in Girona to succeed an existing college called Estudi General. The old university was extinct in 1717, and its services moved to the Cervera, a small town 160 Km (100 mi) away, following the end of War of the Spanish Succession. Like most of Catalonia (not Cerdera :-), Girona sided with the defeated party of the Habsburgs, so the extinction of the university was a punition of the winning Philip V of Spain, the grandson of Louis XIV of France who was the first king of the Bourbon dinasty that still rules in Spain. Incidentally, I have two posts related with this Philip V, the Palace of La Granja, which was built by him, and the Old Cathedral of Lerida, which was turned into barracks also by him.
WS: A view of a nearby neighbourhood taken from the castle that stands close to the POV of the main POV.

A nice abstract sculpture, of the dog, woman & bird. I like the vibrant splashes of blue & red. Good sharpness & well composed. Parabens!

As you hint in your title the contrast between old and new is very stark, and I can't help feeling a more traditional sculpture would suit the surroundings better. I have nothing against modern sculptures but I prefer them with modern architecture. However none of that is your fault! ;D Your POV was well chosen, I feel, so the ornate decoration of the doorway is included. The views as shown in your WS are lovely.

Bonjour Jose!
