Photographer’s Note
Mallory Square sunset in three photos .
According to Wikipedia Mallory Square is a plaza located in the city of Key West, on the waterfront in historic Old Town. It is located just west of the northern end of Duval Street, facing the Gulf of Mexico. It runs the entire length of Wall Street. Adjacent to the square are the Key West Shipwreck Historeum Museum and the Old Post Office and Customshouse (Key West, Florida).
It is the location of the "Sunset Celebration", which is considered one of the main tourist attractions of the city. The "Sunset Celebration" involves hundreds of tourists who arrive each night to view the sunset. The celebration includes arts and crafts exhibitors, street performers and food carts. It begins two hours before sunset, every day of the year.
I am here to tell you it is a hoot. The performers are unabashed and not the least bit ashamed of browbeating the tourists for bigger tips for the corniest of street theater. As listed above the sunset celebration is of some note and the setting sun is truly wonderful though I know here on TE some think there are already too many shots of it...
Anyway this is part of the Key West experience and should happen to be in this drinking town with a fishing problem you owe it to yourself to go see the circus.

hi Greg,
I don't care about the arts and crafts show, just let me get a photo like this! love it, the fiery red sun and romantic silhouette of the sailboat are too good a combination to be true. great, really great timing, nothing more to add.

Hello Greg,
What a powerful image of the sun setting on the Gulf. It reminds me of the Maya belief that the sun would be tired, old and red at the end of the day as it set (in the West): then it would be carried in the underworld by attendants, and rise the next morning rejuvenated in the East. Well done!
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Greg,
What a beautiful shot! Love that big red sun and the ship sailing away to new adventures. Great light and colours. Hard to believe there are that many people present, thanks for adding this to your workshop...I sure wouldn't have guessed it from your photo. Great work!

Hi Greg
Nice moment of last warmth and it's good you found an element to balance the sun with this nice boat, you have several visible dust spots.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Greg,
Usually, I am not fan of the sunset photo, a little bit too much postcard to my taste.
But I must recognize, the effect is very good here with the long focal effect providing a big sun on the horizon. Moreover you got the ship and a dense red color on the sun.
Florida seems a good place seen in this way.

Hi Greg,
What a photo. The romantic painters may be envious! The composition fantastic, the timing is great. The sailing boat great balanced in the composition. The lights and the colours increase the romanticism of the sight likewise. Wonderful mood. Congratulations. Have a nice day!

Hi Greg,
Hot Dang! this must be what Jimmy Buffet was lementing about in his diddy "Tequila Sunrise."
Wait this is a sunset well pardon me.
Love it anyway that big red ball halfway below the riffiling blue horizon and the scooner load of revellers.
Beautiful combo of red and blue in the late day sky.
It's 5 ooclock somewhere so let's raise our glasses to Greg.

Hello Greg,
This photo is magical! It is amazing how the illusion of the sun touching the water can seem so real. It looks as though it has fallen from the sky. The red color is brilliant against the darker tones in the rest of the scene. That sailboat passing by is classic...really nice one!

Hi Greg,
A fantastic sunset, with a sun reminding those photos of Jupiter, but more red. The presence of the charming sail boat makes it very special. You were lucky, but you were also very inspired and skilful to take profit of the moment and the amazing light.

What an atmospheric shot, Greg!
I always associate places like this with James Bond, and it would fit into one of his films very well! I would imagine James, and some beautiful female spy, esconced in the boat, sailing off into oblivion!
Excellent composition with just enough light to show the boat, the pink tinged sky and that wonderful sphere of a sun!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Greg,

Hi Greg,
Seeing those workshops i think we all are crazy.....yes this fool also stand between such a crowd ;-))) So many people for a daily sunset, but if you have the right ingredients like a boat and a big lens to make the sun huge it can be interresting enough to stand there...like you did, and the result is very nice. Maybe the top sky could be more saturated, more orange/red, but the composition with the sun and boat is wonderful, nothing wrong about that.
Take care,
Henk

Amazing scenery, my friend!
Our world is beautiful and the moments we live are unique! Nature is always active so we have to keep step with her!
The sailing ship is the appropriate element in this composition. You handled very well the light and kept fine details where you had to.
You did your best!
Thanks!
