Photographer’s Note

Lake Atitlan is a dreamland, one of the most fascinating places in the world. The natural setting is stunning - the lake is surrounded by towering volcanoes. Its shoreline is dotted with traditional villages of the descendants of the Maya. There is plenty to see there, so Lake Atitlan should be on the 'must see' list of everybody going to Guatemala.

The distant landscape lines, calmness of the lake, diagonal direction of the tree stumps (although a fairly common photographic compositional element), and especially the hues of blue makes me really want to be there.

it looks like a japanese landscape, with a very peaceful atmosphere., thanks to the soft light and the diagonal of the wooden sticks, leading to the mountains on the background. Well composed.

i see, you've visited this place shortly before me last year. fascinating, dreamy blue in this one. i tried to for 4 days to get a moment of this, but sky was mostly whitish or cloudy in my case.

Looking at your picture, no one can contradict you...it does seem like a must-see. A good balanced composition here and I like how the tones are lighter as you go deeper in the background. Well done.

I like the blue tones very much,and I like the different layers of the misty mountains,that gives a very peaceful atmosphere!The perspective given by the line of poles creates a great depth,and this line leads the eyes to the mountains in a very nice way!I undestand why you were fascinated by this landscape,this is superb!

This place does look like a dreamland. The view is fascinating and enchanting; somehow it takes you back in time and imagine the Mayans in their traditional villages living in the middle of a pristine paradise.

Beautiful composition in blue. The line of wooden posts with their reflection in the water is an invitation to pursue the journey on the lake. It structures the image by bringing of the depth and a long perspective.

hello Michal,
the soft blue tones and simplicity of the composition convey the feeling of tranquility very well, and this is one of those occasions where placing horizon right in the middle actually helps to emphasise the calm mood. excellent clarity, I particularly like how thick the water look. great shot, my compliments.

Michal,
Yes absolutely an image full of tranquilty and solitude. Even though the light is not really ideal, there was much haze in the air and it in the middle of the day, you captured very well the peaceful mood of the place. The poles in the water though a touch to dark, but they draw us into the water and the rest of scenery. Thanks mister world travelling man. I envy you.
