Photographer’s Note
The Island in the Sky mesa rests on sheer sandstone cliffs over 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain. Every overlook offers a different perspective on Canyonlands’ spectacular landscape. The Island is the easiest district to visit in a short period of time, offering many pullouts with spectacular views along the paved scenic drive.

hi Derek,
this is where we are going at the end of May, and looking at your photo I wish it was now :) great shot, the landscape looks like from a surrealist painting, and the sky is equally impressive. the combined result, with the play of light and shadows on the ground and rust red colours is fascinating, I love the feeling of wide open and windy space. great shot, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

Hello Derek,
Very nice view, good composition. Maybe those rocks in foreground are too big and they overpowering the background, especially with almost similar colors.
But, it is still very good photo.
Thanks!

Hi, Daniel. The rocks in the foreground give a very good depth to your picture. The landscape is really impressive with these ravines and rock formations. A nice sky which contrasts well with the reddish tones in the foreground.
Have a nice weekend,
Philippe

Hello Derek! I stood there last June and I found it actually not easy to bring the feeling over when you stand there but in your case I find a return, something comes back that I had there. The clouds helped a lot I guess and leaving some parts in the shade and others in the sun. Very nice choice with the stony foreground (okay what else is there ... LOL) leading us into the wide opens space. Beautiful photo indeed, one of the very good TE shots from this place. Best regards, Barbara.

Hi Derek:
Every now and then I see a shot of the Colorado Plateau that just makes me want to go back and explore. This is definitely one of them. Very nice shot of the Island in the Sky area. I have a shot of this exact same area, but the lighting was horrible and it wasn't really salvageable. Yours is excellent. One thing I would change though--I would boost the color a bit more. :) Otherwise, excellent work.

Good morning, Derek.
An endless, breathtaking, almost surrealistic view. Salvador Dalí's imaginary landscapes are the first thing that comes to my mind. I've been here several times, let's say I know how it feels like. Great job! Have a good day, I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Beautiful, the cloudy sky gives a great DOF to the Picture and makes it really special, of course the place is a wonderful land I hope to visit this summer.
Best regards.
