Photographer’s Note

The view on the way to work.

The mine is perhaps only 10 years or so old.

The points on the top of the hills are ovoos (Mongolian: heap) a shamanistic cairn found in many places in Mongolia and nearby in China. Usually they are made of heaped up rocks. But I have seen some with broken bottles, parts of tyres, and anything that is coloured.

When passing one it is tradition to stop, circle 3 times in a clockwise direction and place on top another rock or anything else you may have.
