Photographer’s Note

I've spent the last two days taking pictures in Naha's municipal market. All sorts of tropical fish are on sale - you can make your selection from the market, then go upstairs and have it cooked for you. This guy (the person, not the fish!) can speak a few words of English, and he's helped me choose what to eat and how to have it cooked. They're also very accustomed to tourists with cameras - the Japanese are reknowned for their camera-happy tendencies, and they're no different at home than abroad!

Hi Charlotte,

I imagine you had a fun time in your market journeys:) This fish is looking sharp and very detailed. The man in the background adds fundamental context to the whole composition. Also enjoy how the fish and the man's yellow attire.

I appreciate the warmth and depth of field. The bokeh is not so luscious, but an excellent shot nonetheless!! That fish looks like someone at my work.

I like the sharpness of the fish and the soft focus of the fish seller.The coloured background bokeh of the market lights is nice.

Great shot. Everyone who comes to Japan is guilty of taking a cliched shot or two but this one isn't. Pin sharp, well composed and well, just generally great.
