First contact with Marseille Photo

Photographer’s Note

La semaine dernière, j'ai passé quelques heures à Marseille. C'était juste assez pour me laisser impressionner par l'ambiance de cette grande ville cosmopolite. J'ai essentiellement marché dans le quartier du Panier et aux alentour du Vieux Port, le quartier habité essentiellement par des Musulmans, majoritairement hostiles à la photo. J'étais d'autant plus contente d'arracher un sourire timide à cette femme.

Last week I spent a few hours in Marseille. It was just enough to leave me impressed by the atmosphere of this great cosmopolitan city. I visited the district of Panier, the area mainly inhabited by Muslims, mostly hostile to the photographs. I was especially happy to obtain a shy smile from this woman.

Dlaczego to zdjęcie jest bardzo dobre ???
Tym razem znowu nie napiszę nic więcej. Zachowam się jak 99,9% użytkowników TE.

Jest bardzo dobre, podoba mi się, kocham to, świetny POV, super kolory :-), ostrość gdzie trzeba :-)

Grazyna, I am really not sure if this level of contrast supports the message of the snapshot. It resulted in completely black and white areas. But if it was your intention, I can only respect it.

Dziś oglądam na innym monitorze i wydaje mi się, że kontrasty są przejechane, ale ja przecież lubię mocne kontrasty. Biorąc pod uwagę także perypetie tego zdjęcia - zasługuje na dobrą ocenę.

grazyna it has a very good first plane, the opening of the selected diaphragm give a good depth of field and so you have secured interesting details.

Je n'ai pas le sentiment que l'homme partage l'acceptation de la femme, mais c'est quand même dans la boite. Un portrait dans les règles de l'art, avec le noir et blanc que tu pratiques beaucoup avec bonheur. Joli travail.

Toujours ce noir et blanc saturé qui donne un aspect dramatique au sujet.
Il, n'est pas sûr que l'homme soit très contant.
Je connais un peu Marseille, je suis sûr que cette ville et en particulier le panier serait une source intarissable de photos pour toi.

Good play of contrast with the tones as well as the two expression..fits in well..two things..since its about the hostility that could have comeout somewhat from the man's expression..you should have brought some details on his face and secondly wish you had uploaded the colour verison of this..i see strong sunshine..you could that in a workshop Grazyna..

No faktycznie, złapać uśmiech muzułmanki, to jest coś. Ten w głębi czarny też ciekawa postać. I perspektywa ulicy jak ciasny lejek :)
Rozumiem już, czemu - po jaskrawych doświadczeniach słońca w Marsylii i Prowansji - moje brzeźnieńskie mdłe szaro-szarości Ci nie podchodzą. Ciekawe rozwiazanie w grafizm ostry idące.

Bonjour Nina,

There are many things which strike me in this shot, but if there's one thing I'd like to point at, after looking at the shot many times, it is the woman's eyes and the dark around them. Is this make-up? It reminds me of old German expressionist pictures (which I like a lot) - and that surely is an association thought I'd never expected to make in a muslim neighborhood in Marseille!

Piekielnie, oblakanie naturalne i prawdziwe...
Obrazek z miasta - bezcenny.

Hello Grazyna,

I saw this shot a few days ago and I liked it so much, the woman and the way she stares and smiles, her hand, the POV, the architecture, the rough processing...

I liked everything except... the broken edges due to sharpness I presume. But this shot is so good that I will just forget the edges.
