Photographer’s Note
The ships are starting to leave for the race. Here, the two French Navy schooners, Belle Poule (see my 1989 travelogue) and Etoile, sisterships, are demonstrating their ability to manoeuver together, as twins: three views, one vertical, two horizontal, at different moments of the manoeuver (I have chose the current one as main post because of the best sky and colors).
All three pictures were taken from the deck of my own ship, the Norvegian thre-masted bark Statsraad Lehmkuhl.

My own departure to the Canary Islands is for tomorrow afternoon, and I will see these very ships because they are taking part to the Tall Ships' Atlantic Challenge: it will be their first transatlantic voyage, as as for me!
The site of the TSAC 2009 is here:

And I will be sailing with the Dutch Tecla.

Bonsoir Emmanuel,
first, I agree with you about the choice for the main post - and the POV is the best of them all; second, for a scanned shot it is of a fantastic good quality! let alone the ship itself which looks very beautiful... proud in the sun, on the silvery water surface.
I've just received your reply about the previous photo
Bon voyage! I wish you to take many more interesting photos, and to post them here after you return :)
Warm greetings from rainy Moscow,

Hi Emmanuel,
Surprising scene with the crowd on the shore and the Belle Poule in front. The ship seems much closer to the shore than I expect when I look at the small size of the people ashore.
I wish you a good trip to the Canary islands and hope that you will be able to capture a lot of new pictures.

Hi Emmanuel,
Good decisive moment shot showing the ships on angle against the shore, and very close to each other. Amazing manouevre. Sharpening makes background spectators on the shore look rather restless.

Perfect framing for this lovely schooner-s (you really have to look attentively to see they are two - and there is another one at righ angle). I wish my small boat could manoeuver backwards like them, it goes where she wants to go and never where I want her to go! (:-
Ready for the small pond? (As the americn call it...)
In Italy we sailor use to say: "In culo alla balena!" to wish good luck... you should understand it 'cause it's similar to French.
Ciao,
Donato
