Photographer’s Note

The town of Rovinj (pop. 12,910) belonged to Venice from 1283 to 1797, it was the most populated town of Istria during that period, and the bulkward of the Venetian fleet.

The bell tower seen there was in fact modelled after St Mark's bell tower in Venice. It was built in 1736 as part of the Cathedral of St Euphemia.

Rovinj is one of the last true Mediterranean fishing ports. To get its authentic feeling, better to visit it off-season, for in the summertime it becomes quite touristy.
