Photographer’s Note

This is the paddle steamer "Kaiser Wilhelm" at a quay at Lauenburg. You can also read about this ship here (in German).

The river is of course the Elbe. The name is an old Germanic word meaning river. We have the same word for river in Scandinavia, in Norway elv and in Sweden älv, pronounced "elv" in both countries.

A wonderful old "Schätzchen"! Good that some of these are still preseverd. It's just like the difference between a steam engine and today's high-speed trains. this ship hassomething like a soul, a personality. In your photo I like especially these strong colours and the wonderful light. Blue sky obviously accompanied you on your way southward ;-)

Hi Gunnar,

Here Elba is quite wide. I had no idea Elne means river. On Polish we call Łaba. Nice view, looks like Vistula, so flat, but on Vistula there is no boats :(( nice colours and perfect reflections.

bits of bright yellow and bright red enliven this view very much and draw attention immediately to the main object - the steamer around which there is a beautiful and quiet scenery. I find the perspective view simply excellent! It includes many things (also even the red-roofed houses on the right :))
Nice, tranquil mood... and a special clarity in the air.

An enchanting shot! The paddler steamer of course is a real eye-catcher, but the great atmosphere brought by the beautiful light, lovely colours, amazing clarity and the calm river is making this shot a real attraction. A perfect composition as well.

it would be a true pleasure for me, to travel with this
interesting boat down the river. I like to see old machines still in use, whether it`s boats, motorcycles or cars. You have probably choosen the best Pov for this photo. Full overview of the boat and some of the surroundings, crisp and clear with fine colors.
