Photographer’s Note
Some 270m to the east and 270m underneath the Viaduct Millau (1994). Click the link at the bottom of the post for the exact location.
In the south of France you can find this 2.5km long bridge. What is so special about it is that it's the tallest in the world. One of the masts is 343 meters high which is a little taller that the Eiffel Tower in Paris! You have a big chance of crossing this bridge when driving from Paris to Barcelona (A75) or visa versa.
Being around the bridge was, to be honest, not that spectacular because it's just hard to believe that a lot of traffic is passing by some 200m+ above you. I was surprised that it's just beautifully finished. I will post more photo's of some of the details in the days to come.
A few years ago I've seen a documentary on Discovery (link: here) about the build of the bridge which took 3 years. The program was excellent and ever since I wanted to go there to see it for myself. So last weekend I planned to combine a visit to the bridge with a visit to the 24h of Le Mans. The plan was: Rotterdam - Millau - Le Mans - Rotterdam; some 2500km in one weekend. I got stuck in a crazy traffic jam in Antwerp which messed up my entire plan. I had to choose: the 24 hours (which I adore) or Millau. I have no regrets. Awesome engineering... EPIC trip...

Hi Gilbert,
An incredible viaduct and also an incredible panorama. This fish-eye perspective is excellent, so was your idea to include your car for colour and depth. The old road curving along underneath is also a fine part of your composition. We drove through Millau many years ago, long before this viaduct was built...
Kind regards

a funny one, Gilbert. i am fascinated by how the wide angle distortion on the car matches the curves of the road and the bridge.
cheers,
kristaps
