Photographer’s Note

Already in 1885, Claude Monet was here and made a picture of this landmark. You can see his version in the workshop. He used a much lower POV, so I assume he was standing on the beach you can see down below, to the right.

According to my map, this is Porte d´Aval and l´Aiguille.

The map reference shows the place from where I took this picture!

Hej Gunnar,
Impressive view with very interesting lines on the rocks, like an EAN-code. Were the cliffs similar where you were standing? The picture is dominated by very mild colours, mainly shades of grey, that create a restful atmosphere.

A really fine picture. The sharpness is fantastic. Great idea to have the painting by Monet in the WS. You have chosen a high POV while the painting by Monet is seen from the beach. I guess that it was high tide when you took your photo and this prevented you from taking a photo from the beach. TFS and have a nice Saturday evening!

Hi Gunnar,

What strikes my is Monet's view on this place (as he does) is far more about the play of light on the place than the place itself .. were yours is about powerful nature .. those powerful .. almost graphic lines of the cliffs .. the powerful lines of the arch .. very nice image.

You capture the details well here, as I can count the layers in the cliffs!
And wind and sea can create amazing structures over the years...

This is one of the sides of TE I like so much ! Without your entry I never would be able to know this fascinating place and its sturctures. Not easy to create such an artwork by mans hand. Only mother nature is capable for such great artworks.

I was intrigued when I saw this, and the Monet, yesterday but did not have time to comment. Now what strikes me is the amusing thought that you show us a magician taking an elephant for a drink (that's what happens when you point out the smiling face in my boat photo!)
Seriously, it's a lovely photo. The light on the triangular rock and on the top of the cliff contrasts with the cool greys of the lower part. The silk-like surface of the sea contrasts with the banded pattern of the rocks. The horizon is well chosen.

le POV qu'il fallait pour montrer une des merveilles naturelles de notre planète, beaucoup d'altitude et malgré le manque de soleil, des lumières qui livrent tous les détails des textures rocheuses.

Hi Gunnar, Interesting idea to compare the photo with the impressionist painting. Fromthis side the rock looks lie a big elephant drinking, specially with this colour. Splendid composition.

I've already seen this place in France many times here at TE! Many of the pictures were excellent! Yours is very good too! Et veldig interessant motiv. Det gjør det jo enda mer interessant når Monet har malt det samme motivet.
Uansett er dette veldig flott. Et flott eksempel på kreftene i bølgeerosjon er det jo også. Dette er faktisk et ganske lærerikt bilde. Det ser ut som du har valgt et fint sted å stå der du fikk en veldig fin oversikt over stedet.
