Lake Tänndalssjön Photo

Photographer’s Note

Lake Tänndalssjön seems to be just another lake along the roadside when you’re driving from Røros in Norway to Funäsdalen and Sveg in Sweden, one of the many lakes you can find scattered all over this area.

Lake Tänndalssjön is around 5 km long located at an altitude of 700 m.

However, when I did a bit of research for this note I realized this is not an ordinary lake at all! Lake Tänndalssjön has an outstanding fishing history, where mountain trout around 3-4 kilo happens every year! But most impressive is the overall record, held by a Swedish fellow named Karl Sjölund.

Some years ago Mr Sjölund caught a trout of 11,8 kilo, and the fish was almost 1 m long! Believe me, mountain trout of this size is very rare, in fact I have never heard of fish like this at an altitude of 700 m.

So if you happen to pass by Tänndalen this summer, please remember that early morning is the best time for catching the trout, and small spinners the best bait…

Tänndalen is basically a ski resort located in Funäsdalen, 580 km from Stockholm, and is considered to be one of the most snow-secure ski areas in Sweden. In Funäsdalen there is more than 300 km of prepared Nordic tracks, and Mt Ramundberget has 17 ski lifts and 41 runs.

Hi Pablo,
I was expecting to see some green leaves on the tree in May. Perhaps this is the very cold part of Sweden. I love the beautiful cloud and light blue sky, very refreshing. the Mountian or hills are still covered with snow. Great clarity, the reflection of the sky on the lake is beautiful. Hi Pablo,

I just can't see photos like that...I makes me remember that I need some vacation! :) It's such a beautiful lake, surrounded by great nature. Composition is, as usual, well thought. The horizon line in the middle, dividing the image into two parts (real and reflected) and placing the trees and branches on the very left make it well balanced and dynamic. Very good presentation!

The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view takes our eyes toward the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The light has a good effect on the colors of the scenery. Have a nice day.

We have lakes were such trout used to be caught but they were “new hydroelectric” lakes and had good food supply for a time, now that things have stabilised the trout are a little smaller ;-(. I really like your framing looking at the cloud's reflection through the willow (?) branches and that bit of snow-capped mountains. The note is fascinating, that is a really BIG trout!! It's even bigger than a bull trout (char); which must be returned to the lake in Oregon.

It's more like a winter image than a spring one, but the light is wonderful and I love the clouds reflected in the lake. Well composed image with good depth helped by the inclusion of the foreground shore. That's some fish!!
