Photographer’s Note
Shot at Companhia das Lezírias, Ribatejo.
This one of my rare hand held shots, even more with my 300mm, but we must always try to get the best from all situations.

Hello Joao,
They are beautiful indeed and your photo does them justice. Unfortunately, the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a pernicious invasive species that takes over waterways if not controlled, impeding water flow, blocking sunlight from reaching native plants, and starving the water of oxygen, often killing fish. It is often an indicator of water pollution, although uses are now being found for it in the production of cattle food, fertilizer, biogas, handicrafts and furniture. It is also being used in wastewater treatment (due to fast growth and ability to tolerate high levels of pollution).
Regards,
Mary
