Photographer’s Note

Riaño es un municipio de la provincia de León (España) situado al noreste de la misma, a los pies de la Cordillera Cantábrica cerca de los Picos de Europa, a 1.148 m de altitud.

La Historia reciente de Riaño (León) está marcada por un episodio traumático lleno de lágrimas, impotencia y sufrimiento. El Pueblo original, el antiguo Riaño o Viejo Riaño, fue derruido sin contemplaciones por el gobierno de turno en 1987 por la construcción de un macroembalse que anegó todo el valle incluyendo 7 pueblos más. Desde entonces, Riaño es una Comarca decapitada que ha intentado en vano abrirse camino.

Tras varios intentos de construir un pantano a lo largo del siglo XX, finalmente este precioso y único valle en el que confluyen los ríos Esla, Yuso y Retuerto, fue sepultado por las aguas en 1987. El proyecto de construcción del pantano dio lugar a numerosas movilizaciones populares, enfrentamientos con las "fuerzas del orden" y suicidios. Un pueblo nuevo sin memoria con el mismo nombre, fue reedificado en la cima de la montaña, teniendo no a sus pies, sino hasta el cuello, las aguas del pantano. Hoy en día, las voces de la razón y el corazón aun no se han callado.

Riaño is a municipality of the province of León (Spain) placed to the North-East of the same one, to the feet of the Cantabrian Mountain range next to the Peaks of Europe, to 1.148 m of altitude.

The recent History of Riaño (León) is marked by a traumatic episode full of tears, powerlessness and suffering. The original People, the ancient Riaño or Old man Riaño, was in ruins without contemplations for the government of shift in 1987 for the construction of a macroreservoir that overwhelmed the whole vale including 7 more villages. Since then, Riaño is a decapitated Region that has tried to open to itself in vain way.

After several attempts of constructing a marsh throughout the XXth century, finally this beautiful and only vale in which there come together the rivers Esla, Yuso and Reinjury, it was buried by the waters in 1987. The project of construction of the marsh gave place to numerous popular mobilizations, clashes with the "police" and suicides. A new people without memory with the same name, was rebuilt in the top of the mountain, having not to his feet, but up to the neck, the waters of the marsh. Nowadays, the voices of the reason and the heart even have not been kept silent.

Bridge over the dam, which began some time ago and this takes more open.

Hi Charo.
A really superb reflection shot which is made so special by your cropping and removal of distortion, tilting etc in order to maximise the graphical effect. The blue of the water is so luminous. This shot shows harmony between nature and man-made things. Great work.

Un grafismo excelente, tan como la luz y los colores.
El formato cuadrado me gusta mucho aquí.
Tu modo de cuadrar valoriza las numerosas líneas del punte y de los reflejos.

Hola Charo,

me gustan mucho las dos fotografias, son diferentes pero muy buenas ambas, en esta juegas mas con el reflejo del puente que crea un efecto interesante, en la del WS, me gusta mucho la perspectiva en la que el puente juega un papel importante, bien visto (por partida doble),

D'habitude je ne suis pas attiré par les ponts modernes, mais j'apprécie ce cadrage particulier de ce pattern de pilliers.
Si je fixe longuement l'image cela fait un étrange effet optique qui donne une sensation de relief 3 D.

Hola amiga Charo,
este encuadre es toda una declaración de intenciones gráficas.
La horizontal del tablero del puente arriba en el cuadro crea un magnífico efecto al contraponerse con su reflejo en diagonal hacia la esquina inferior izquierda.
El grafismo y el efecto dinámico de esta perspectiva es muy fuerte, me gusta.
Bellos tonos azules en el agua.

un graphisme vraiment partait, un peu au mépris d'une vue plus globale et plus naturelle du pont. Mais le sucès de cette photo montre que tu as fait un bon choix.
Des couleurs intenses qui se marient bien et un cadrage tellement bien 'calculé'.
